The 5 LoL items removed from the game

Sightstone

If you haven’t played lol in the first seasons, you probably don’t know what Sightstone was. It was essentially a support-only item that allowed you to place wards, similar to what the current support items do. While it doesn’t seem broken at first, the item was also built on junglers, beginning a meta of vision control and slow gameplay that plagued like for years. It was removed at the start of Season 8 and replaced with the current system of vision items.

Zz’rot Portal

Zz’Rot Portal was first added at the start of season five and it was supposed to be an item for tanks. It gave armor and magic resistance, as well as an active effect that planted a portal that spawned voidlings that would damage towers and inhibitors over time. In other words, it was a split pushing item for tanks but it ended up being too annoying to place against and unfun for the enemy team. This is because some champions like Sion could abuse it to quickly push waves and teleport while the item continued doing the pushing job for them. It ended up being removed in season 9.

Banner of Command

This item was used alongside the Zz’Rot Portal. Banner of Command was essentially the old version of Bullbreaker: by using the active effect, you could grant a minion increased power and reduced damage. Paired with Zz’Rot’s, you could cast it on a cannon minion and the lane would automatically push toward the enemy side, forcing the enemy to answer that and giving you a number advantage at the start of fights. It was such a weird thing to balance that it was removed in season 8.

Luckily now, Hullbreaker requires the person to be on the lane so Riot found a good way to balance it.

Deathfire Grasp

Deathfire Grasp was probably the most loved item… for those who built it. Not only did it offer insane stats for mages but it had amplified all the damage taken by that target, making it the ultimate item for quick burst damage champions and AP assassins. Unfortunately, it was so strong that it was deemed not interactive by those who played against it, and it was removed from Summoner’s Rift in Season 5. It was later implemented in Nexus Blitz but only until season 10, when it was officially removed.

Ohmwrecker

Ohmwrecker was an extremely interesting item and I’m sad it was removed in season 9. While it didn’t give exceptional stats, it had the active effect of shutting down turrets for a period of time, making it perfect for setting up dives and punishing enemies. As a Volibear main, you can kind of expect why I enjoyed the item.

The problem with the item is that it became insanely hard to balance and unless it fit specific team comps, it wasn’t that useful or popular, thus Riot removed it from the game. This is the list of the broken lol items removed from the game. Did we miss any? Let us know in the comments.
