After DreamLeague Season 21 concluded, Tundra Esports and BetBoom Team are left facing significant backlash yet again.

It all revolves around allegations that players from both teams accessed external information during their matches. This incident has raised eyebrows, especially with the International 2023 just around the corner.

Core of the Controversy

During their matches, both BetBoom Team’s Danil “gpk” Skutin and Tundra Esports’ Neta “33” Shapira were allegedly caught alt-tabbing to access external information. Gpk was suspected of viewing a tournament stream, potentially trying to gain an edge for his team. On the other hand, 33 was seen on Dotabuff, a platform known for its extensive Dota 2 data.

The exact duration of their interaction with these external sources remains unclear. Webcam snippets only provided brief views, making it hard to gauge the potential advantage they might have gained.

This isn’t the first time BetBoom Team has been in hot water. They previously faced accusations of accessing unauthorized external information during the Bali Major. Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko, a team member, was spotted toggling between screens and viewing a live stream during an in-game pause.

This incident led to a technical loss for the team and Moskalenko’s disqualification, while the handling of this incident by tournament administrators was criticized for perceived inconsistencies and irregularities.

Tundra Esports had run-ins with the “law” during the Bali Major. Neta “33” Shapira was accused of opening Spotify during a match. Although this didn’t provide any competitive advantage, it was still a breach of the rules. As a result, Tundra Esports received a 30-second draft penalty for their subsequent match.

Both teams could face a range of penalties, from draft-related sanctions to potential exclusion from future ESL events. While accessing a stream or Dotabuff might not offer immediate benefits, the significance of adhering to tournament rules is paramount.

Can’t we all just agree not to alt-tab out of our clients during official matches?
