The Thunderstruck fighting game series is making a return this year, for its second yearly tournament after a break following 2019. This latest event, Thunderstruck 2023, is bringing back one of the biggest Mexican fighting game tournaments. This time there are boosted prizes and a spread of the best fighting games getting tournaments here. It’s our first event since numerous major fighters were released, so how have things changed at Thunderstruck?
Thunderstruck 2023 is going to be a fighting game tournament with five of the best fighters getting tournaments. We’ll see some of the best players in the region turning up to compete in these games. It’s all taking place over October 7-8th, live in San Nicolás de los Garza and on the official stream. This is what’s happening at the event.
Thunderstruck 2023 – What Games are Played?
Most fighting game tournaments are made by the wide array of different games they feature. Compared to some, Thunderstruck has a more restrained list of tournaments. It’s got the best fighters active right now, but not too many more out there picks. These are all of the titles we’ll see at the tournament.
Street Fighter 6 – $19,950 Prize
King of Fighters XV – $9,900
Dragon Ball FighterZ – $22,532
Tekken 7 – $2,700
Guilty Gear Strive – $3,300
What’s impressive about most of these events is their place in the wider circuits. The King of Fighters XV is also part of the SWC 2023, a global circuit. FighterZ is a power event at the FighterZ World Tour. Plus, the Tekken tournament is a Dojo event for the TWT. Each of these events has some extra stakes with progression on the wider circuits tied behind success here too.
Format
How exactly are each of these tournaments going to work? It’s a familiar format. Players will first compete in open pools, the length of which will vary depending on sign-ups for each game. We’ll then get down to a final double-elimination bracket. Here, we’ll whittle things down until we find the very best player.
That’s how things at Thunderstruck 2023 are going to work. There are quite a few exciting tournaments going on here. If you’re following any of the bigger circuits this year, it’s a great event to tune into and see which fighting game esports players are making it through from this region.
