BDS qualify for Worlds 2023 play-in stage

The Worlds Qualifying Series was the latest addition to the tournament format, with the LEC and LCS’ fourth seeds clashing against one another in a Bo5 series. The winner would advance to the play-in stage. With little to no data on how the two teams would square off, there was quite some uncertainty going into the match.

But BDS quickly gave EU fans big hope, stomping Golden Guardians in Game 1 in what can already be one of the fastest games of the tournament. In the series’ opener, BDS ran over GG in a little more than 20 minutes (20:24) and didn’t allow the LCS team to pick up any turret, dragon, or other neutral objectives.

While the following two games were closer, BDS always looked in a strong position, and their mid and late-game macro was clearly better in the series. For GG, it was a big reality check, which might also hurt the expectations of the remaining teams from NA.

BDS will now face Team Whales from the VCS in Group B of play-ins, alongside CTBC Flying Oyster and DetonatioN FocusMe on October 11. Group A, instead, will play tomorrow, and it will feature:

PSG Talon vs Movistar R7
GAM vs LOUD

With how BDS played, EU fans can rest assured and be confident about having four LEC teams on the Swiss stage.
