This will allow you to stream a number of selected games, with hundreds more titles to follow. The launch date is set.
Hideaki Nishino, in his role as senior vice president, announced on (PlayStation.Blog) the launch dates for the new console feature for premium PlayStation Plus users.
What can you stream on PlayStation 5 and when?
Sony will soon introduce the option to play games via cloud gaming on the PS5. This means you don’t have to download the games, but stream them instead…
This will be possible as early as the end of October – but there are restrictions.
Nishino writes in his blog entry that it will be a select number of games for now.
This includes these top 5 from the PlayStation Plus Game catalogue:
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Horizon Forbidden West
Ghost of Tsushima
Mortal Kombat 11
Saints Row IV
There will also be demo versions of the following titles:
Hogwarts Legacy
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
The Calisto Protocol
In addition, these digital titles will be compatible:
Resident Evil 4
Dead Island 2
Genshin Impact
Fall Guys
Fortnite
Whether all of these games will actually be playable from the October launch date, or will be unlocked over time, is not clear from the blog post. Either way, though, it’s not supposed to stop at the titles mentioned. Hundreds of more PS5 titles will follow.
When will you be able to stream titles on the PS5?
He gives the following dates as exact launch dates:
● Japan: 17 October 2023
● Europe: 23 October 2023
● North America: 30 October 2023
What are the benefits of cloud gaming?
In the blog entry, Nishino promotes two compelling arguments: no download and yet high quality.
So gaming shall be possible in 720p, 1080p, 1440p or 4K resolutions with 60 FPS each.
(You can select the appropriate resolution in the menu. (Source: Sony/PlayStation))
Of course, you’ll need a stable and powerful internet connection, but it saves you the time and hard drive space of a game download.
We will soon see how well this concept will work for Sony.
Cloud gaming also carries a certain risk. If the internet fails, you can no longer continue playing offline, unlike with classic game downloads. But of course there are also advantages: You can play what you want, when you want. No waiting times, no eternal glances at the download loop. Cloud gaming on the PS5 – will you use it? Feel free to post it in the comments.
