In United Penguin Kingdom, it’s finally not humans who are building the next big metropolis, but the ever-popular flightless seabirds
Did you know that penguins are found exclusively in the southern hemisphere, but not only in Antarctica, but also in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and South America? And did you know that chinstrap penguins have an extremely fragmented sleep and nod off up to 10,000 times a day for just a few seconds? Penguins also build impressive cities
One of these three facts is a stone-cold lie. Well, at least when it comes to our real world. Virtually, however, penguins do indeed have ambitious city-building plans – at least in the construction game (United Penguin Kingdom on Steam).
We’ll give you a brief introduction to the game below, but that’s not all: You can try out the penguin title for yourself right away with the free demoif your curiosity is piqued!
Washed with all waters
At its core, United Penguin Kingdom is a classic city builderas you’ve probably seen plenty of them in recent years. Nevertheless, the setting is unusual: after we have been allowed to build a city as a human countless times and have also been able to demonstrate our building skills as beavers in the excellent Timberborn, it is now the turn of penguins.
You build a penguin settlement, which continues to grow over the course of a game. According to the developers, the focus is primarily on the economy. You have to collect, process and distribute a variety of products. You can even conclude trade agreements with other penguin towns.
As the population grows, so do the needs of the waddling seabirds. In addition to food and pretty decorations, this also includes leisure activities and security.
Food: Of course, your townspeople eat fish, and you have to constantly pull them out of the water, process them and bring them to the feathered folk.
Decoration: In the trailer above you can already see a whole host of decorative objects that will beautify your city and increase the happiness of the penguins.
Leisure: Penguins apparently love to go karting. At least that’s just one of several leisure activities that the penguins do to pass the time in this game. There are also cinemas, video games, gyms and more.
Safety: From time to time your penguin metropolis will be attacked by invaders and those of you who have seen the movie Voyage of the Penguins will already know what we are talking about with tear-filled eyes: Seals! Mean, nasty seals – oh yes, and killer whales.
The crowning glory, however, is a particularly heart-warming feature: you can gather your penguin population at any time for a group hug in the town square to strengthen cohesion. Has that made your day? Us too
If you’re now interested in United Penguin Kingdom, you can play the demo on Steam, as already mentioned. The finished game is scheduled for release sometime in 2024.
