GTA Online has been around for a few years now. Now a newly discovered beta version shows what kind of features never made it into the game
The multiplayer mode of GTA 5 is bursting with content Rockstar has released over the years. (At least if you re ignoring the controversial San Andreas Mercenaries update which unnecessarily complicated the purchase of over 180 vehicles.)
But what content never made it to GTA Online? The question can’t be answered completely, but a newly discovered ten-year-old beta at least gives us an idea.
What GTA Online was originally supposed to look like
The Twitter user KimiSha19 has found it and shared his discoveries with the rest of the internet. In his video, the GTAO player shows a pre-release version of the beta, which must be over ten years old by now.
@morsmutual_ I found a way to play the pre-release beta version of Xbox 360 GTA Online on Xenia, might be interested in seeing it https://t.co/ZyD96x2eJP

Be forewarned: The ten-minute video shows GTA Online in a state that the public should never get to see, of course. So be prepared for one or the other bug, while especially a few features are interesting, which never made it into the final release version.
Such as the following:
The HUD is designed differently – the differences are especially noticeable when leveling up.
The character selection has five different slots and the construction menu is also designed differently – but the selection options are ultimately the same.
When you die on screen, there are additional details about how you died: who killed you, with what weapon, where the hits landed and what stats the other player has.
Special crates keep dropping in the game world, though fans aren’t quite sure what they are.
Two additional phone contacts can be seen: Al Carter and Edgar Carlos, representing the Lost MC and LS Vagos.
With Lamar, Al and Edgar, players could have requested gang support via phone call.
According to
KimiSha19, the pre-release beta of GTA Online is just beginning to be explored. In the foreseeable future, they hope to unearth even more interesting findings from the version.
What do you think of the ten year old pre-release beta version of GTA Online? Which elements would you have liked for the final game and which ones can you do without in good conscience? How satisfied are you with the current state of GTA 5’s multiplayer mode? What are your hopes and expectations for future Rockstar releases? Let us know in the comments!
