In a statement posted on Twitter late last night, Activision Blizzard’s representatives revealed a tantalising piece of news. While expressing gratitude to the community for the growing anticipation of Modern Warfare 3, the team touched upon the topic of bringing Call of Duty (and other titles) to the Xbox Game Pass service. It has long been suggested that, once Microsoft’s purchase of Activision is completed, this will happen – but this is one of the first times it has been confirmed by either party.
It wasn’t a lengthy statement, but it was enough to set expectations ablaze. In the short post, Activision Blizzard’s social team explained that the firm’s games will start making their way to Game Pass ‘in the course of next year’, if the acquisition deal closes successfully, of course. It’s expected to come to a final end in just a few days, and after that, it’s anyone’s guess what will be added to Game Pass when, but there are plenty of games there just waiting to move over.
What Activision Blizzard Games Could Come to Game Pass?
Here’s the statement that was published by Activision Blizzard on Twitter:
‘It’s awesome to see anticipation building for Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® III. As we continue to work toward regulatory approval of the Microsoft deal, we’ve been getting some questions whether our upcoming and recently launched games will be available via Game Pass.
While we do not have plans to put Modern Warfare® III or Diablo IV into Game Pass this year, once the deal closes, we expect to start working with Xbox to bring our titles to more players around the world. And we anticipate that we would begin adding games into Game Pass sometime in the course of next year.’
It’s huge news for gamers the world over, as it could mean, given enough time, that every Call of Duty game will find its way to the Game Pass subscription in the near future. It doesn’t end there, though – as Activision Blizzard reference, there’s also Diablo IV, which was released this year to a wonderful reception.
Aside from that, there are other games that could be brought across from Activision’s coffers:
Tony Hawk’s games
Overwatch
Warcraft (subscription could be rolled up into Game Pass)
Crash Bandicoot
StarCraft
Guitar Hero (time for a reboot?)

To Be Confirmed
At the moment, this is all conjecture – we don’t know what will be added to Game Pass, and we certainly don’t know when it’ll all land on the service. However, the groundwork has been completed, and Activision Blizzard has said quite firmly that these games have their migration planned – and likely mapped out internally. There will be people in the know at Xbox and Activision who already know what’s going to happen post-acquisition.
Could we see Call of Duty 2024 launched on day one on Game Pass? That’d be a monumental milestone for the service and a mind-blowing win for Xbox and Microsoft.
