Last week, Epic made a particularly strange update to Fortnite skins. They added age ratings to them, which to some players introduced censorship to the various Fortnite outfits in the game. In accordance with their recent changes to Fortnite Creative adding age ratings, skins got them too. It’s fair to say this was a controversial choice, but Epic has listened. We’ve just learned they’re essentially u-turning on the Fortnite skins controversy.

The whole debacle comes down to adding age ratings to skins to make the game safer for younger players. The stranger way Epic chose to introduce them though and which skins were selected attracted a fair bit of criticism. With this new update though, Fortnite skins are going back to normal.

Fortnite Skins Age Rating Reverted

Epic is in the process of making Fortnite a safer game for younger players. In part of a push for Creative mode, each game mode now has an age rating. Skins were recently categorized too with age ratings applied too. This meant a good number of skins were not able to be played in all game modes, particularly popular Fortnite creative maps.

The skins chosen for these restrictions had some strange quirks. It seemed Epic was mainly focusing on the depiction of weapons. Characters with visible firepower were out. So were relatively innocent-looking skins with something as simple as a holster or piece of ammo though. This even meant a Peely and the loveable Jelle were both out from some maps.

Epic has decided to turn around this controversial decision this week! Players have had two updates from the company, pretty quickly trying to set things right. First, they announced the restriction as temporary, while they produced modified versions of the skins to appear in these lower-rating maps. However, even after this first fix, Epic has updated us again.

Epic is rolling back the entire change. They’ll be coming up with a different system for regulating skins in the future. That’s along with giving us a quick tease for the end-of-season event happening for the finale of Fortnite OG.

This new change will make fans happy, reverting a pretty unpopular change. Hopefully Epic can find a better settlement between keeping younger players safe and letting everyone use all of their skins.
