Tribes: Ascend, the last game in the shooter series for the time being, was released over 10 years ago. Now it has been announced that a successor is being developed

The release of the first of (Starsiege: Tribes), the first game in the shooter series, was 25 years ago in a week’s time. And just in time for the anniversary, the first images of a new, as yet unnamed Tribes game have been released. If you are already pricking up your ears, we have even more good news: Because you’ll soon be able to try out the title for yourself.

What kind of game is this?

Not much is known about the new Tribes yet, but now the first images from an early version of the game, as well as some information on the official Discord server, reveal some details, but take a look for yourself:

The game seems to be quite clearly based on previous titles such as Tribes: Ascend and we’ll probably get multiplayer. We are probably getting a multiplayer shooter with large, open maps. Here we can probably – assuming we take the right paths – slide across the map at breakneck speed and shoot at passing enemies with futuristic weapons. A jetpack will probably also be available again

It is not yet clear from the screenshots whether there will be different classes again. However, we can see that we can carry around three different weapons and that there will definitely be Capture the Flag as a game mode. If you need a little refresher on Tribes, take a look at the trailer for Ascend:

Playtest still in November

We’ll soon be able to find out a lot more about the game. Because on November 29 or 30 a big playtest will start, which you can then join via the game’s Steam page (which does not yet exist). There is currently no exact information on start times and duration, but we will of course keep you up to date on this.

What do you think of the first images from the new Tribes? Do you like the fact that the shooter is stylistically very similar to its predecessor, or would you have preferred much fancier graphics? Would you like to see a game that offers the same freedom of movement as Tribes? Let us know your opinion in the comments!
