Apex Legends Season 18 has finally arrived, after one of the most controversial periods for the game we’ve seen. One of the biggest messes that needed cleaning up from last season was the Apex ranked changes. There have been some alterations to the way that the Apex Ranked mode works this season, but are the Apex Legends Season 18 Ranked mode fixes enough to restore the game?

The season has been out for a couple of days now and there have been some decent changes to the Ranked mode. The Apex Legends Season 18 ranked changes are supposed to address some of the problems with this side of the game, how far have they gone though?

Apex Legends Season 18 Ranked Changes

There are quite a few Ranked changes being made. The first is an overall change to the LP system. Players will get less LP per match in general. This is trying to address the problem of players rising up the ranks too easily. This reached a ridiculous place last season where one player got to masters without a kill. Diamond+ Ranks will also have different rules now. The higher tiers now have higher stakes heading in and fewer points generated, making them tougher.

There will now be a minimum elimination bonus based on what MMR a player has, and more points awarded for elims in general. Ring damage will also be changed for Ranked games, including different timing. This is geared around making the mid-game more exciting.

Matchmaking has also been updated which should make for tougher lobbies when players are trying to rise up the ranks.

Are the Ranked Changes Enough?

The Apex Legends Season 18 Ranked changes are going some way to fixing things. At least at first glance, they seem to address all of the major problems. Hopefully, this will mean that games have more incentive for players to actually push. It’s a move towards more elimination-based games and away from just ranking based on placement. It might not go as far as some players were hoping. However, these ranks are definitely a step in the right direction.
