The companion Wyll will change massively until the launch of the role-playing game. Not only his voice will be affected but also his romance.

Do you like Wyll? If you now Who? ask, you’re in the wrong place in this article and you should probably instead read about the currently free games on Steam and co. or also like Peter’s concerns about whether Starfield will be a real role-playing game.

If instead you answered the opening question with a hearty Yes! we have important news for you. Because at the time of release, you will no longer recognise your beloved companion. The reason for this is a change of the actor used for motion capturing and dubbing.

Not only visual changes

Larian Studios, the company responsible for Baldur’s Gate 3, has confirmed the personnel change. During the recent Panel from Hell livestream, the team spoke on camera about the numerous changes that connoisseurs of the Early Access version can expect at release.

In addition to numerous completely new companions, this also affects Wyll, as already mentioned. His overhaul is confirmed in the following video at 4 hours and 33 minutes:

The new actor goes by the name Theo Solomon and is no stranger to popular franchises: he already scored a 12-hour audiobook for Warhammer 40,000 and has already confirmed his involvement in Baldur’s Gate 3 (on his Instagram channel).

What exactly will change? Wyll’s voice, of course, that should be obvious. It’s not known if anything else will be changed about the character in terms of visuals. but his story, including the romance option, has also undergone major revisions, as Larian’s lead writer Adam Smith explains on the above panel:

Pretty much every line of dialogue has been rewritten. We changed his story a lot. With Wyll, we realised he had an incredibly compelling story, but we didn’t tell it as well as we could have. So we did it again, because that’s what we do.

What do you guys think about the extensive reworking of Wyll? Can you live with the change in voice, or have you become so used to it in Early Access that you’re resentful of it? How much are you looking forward to Baldur’s Gate 3? Will you even give up Starfield for the time being in favour of the role-playing game? Feel free to write us your opinions in the comments!
