The Eeveelutions are popular Pokemon no matter which kind of Pokemon game you’re playing. What is the best Eevee evolution Pokemon go has to offer?

What Eeveelutions are in Pokemon GO?

Throughout the game’s lifespan, they have been adding more and more eevee evolutions with support of newer regions. Right now, all 8 eevee evolutions are in the game. Players also have discovered 1 off tricks to guarantee your eevee evolves into the eeveelution that you want. These will only work 1 time per eeveelution, after that, players will have to evolve normally. The full list of available eevee evolutions are:

Flareon
Vaporeon
Jolteon
Umbreon

How to Evolve Eevee

To evolve Pokemon in Pokemon Go, you’ll need to collect candies. All the eeveelutions require 25 Eevee candy to evolve as a baseline. This is actually pretty low when compared to other Pokemon in the game!

From across the Pokemon generations, different eeveelutions have different requirements. From stones to times of day, thinks can get complicated. But this is how to evolve Eevee in Pokemon Go:

Sylveon evolves with 70 Buddy Candy (Great Level). It will show up as an alternative evolution button if the eevee buddy has also met other criteria.

Glaceon evolves by using a Glacial Lure. After using it, approach the lured PokéStop and the button to evolve into Glaceon should be available.

Leafeon evolves by using a Mossy Lure. After using it, approach the lured PokéStop and the button to evolve into Leafeon should be available.

Espeon evolves after walking 10km with Eevee as your buddy, earning at least 2 candies in the process. Evolving it during the day will give you an Espeon.

Umbreon evolves after walking 10km with Eevee as your buddy, earning at least 2 candies in the process. You need to evolve Eevee during night time to get Umbreon.

If none of the above evolution requirements have been met, using 25 eevee candy will evolve eevee at random into Flareon, Vaporeon or Jolteon.

Special Named Eevees

Another way to guarantee an Eevee evolution (one time only) is to name them after references to other Eevees in Pokemon media. This is easier than it sounds, simply use these nicknames to get the Eeveelution you want:

The original trio are named after the Eevee brothers from the Pokemon anime.

Pyro evolves Eevee to Flareon

Gen 2’s duo names come from the Kimono sisters in Pokemon’s Johto league.

Sakura evolves Eevee to Espeon
Tamao evolves Eevee to Umbreon

The final 3 take their names from the trainers involved in the Eevium Z item quest in the Pokemon Sun and Moon games.

Rea evolves Eevee to Glaceon
Linnea evolves Eevee to Leafeon

What is the best Eevee evolution Pokemon GO has?

In Pokemon GO, while they may not be powerhouses of their own types, the Eeveelutions are easy to level up and evolve, making them solid Pokémon to invest time in when you need a strong pokemon of a type.

This is more relevant for less common types, such as Psychic and Fairy. This makes Espeon and Sylveon good picks for casual content. Glaceon is also good for clearing gyms as Ice type is a very strong offensive type, and plenty of strong Pokémon are Dragon/Flying or both. For league battles, Umbreon can be quite useful up until Master League, where the lower power level of the Pokémon means that its Dark typing coverage can be more useful.
