The best supports to play with Vayne in LoL

Vayne has been rather unpopular in the last few seasons. Her kit didn’t really fit the meta and it brought the devs to buff her in Patch 13.6. Thanks to the better numbers and interesting buffs they gave her, she has been slowly finding increasing success.

Even though she’s still not a top-tier ADC pick, she excels against specific team compositions which have beefy frontlines. Thanks to her true damage on her W, she can melt tanks like butter.

That being said, Vayne requires great supports to have enough time to scale and reach her power spikes. Not all champions work well with her, and it’s crucial to know exactly which are better.

For that reason, we have compiled a list of the best supports to play alongside Vayne. By explaining their strength and weaknesses, you will know better how a specific duo functions.

Milio – the no. 1 support for Vayne

Milio is the newest champion released in League and considering he’s an enchanter, he has been working out really well with most hypercarries, including Vayne. The best thing about him is the fact that the two are almost unbeatable later in the game. Milio can peel Vayne consistently with his shields and ultimate, and she can take advantage of the extra attack range to kill targets from a much safer distance.

Considering Milio has a good amount of poke with his Q, Vayne doesn’t even struggle as much during the laning phase. That said, the two will suffer against bully laners, and you need good vision control to avoid getting dove constantly.

Lulu – The best Milio alternative

Given that Milio is performing quite well, there are high chances he gets banned during champ select. With that in mind, we recommend playing Lulu as the best enchanter alternative. She used to be Vayne’s primary choice, but given that she’s not as strong of a pick currently, her priority has dropped slightly.

That being said, she offers the same amount of peeling power thanks to her Polymorph (W) and Help, Pix! (E), which gives a shield and a good attack speed bonus. In case that wasn’t enough, she can still ult her with Wild Growth (R).

The two will struggle a little more early on, but as long as you’re able to handle the pressure and farm your way up without bleeding too much advantage, this bot lane will gain increasing importance going into the mid-late game.

Thresh – the best engager support for Vayne

Thresh is one of the most versatile supports in the entire game, so it’s not a surprise to have him as a good pairing with Vayne.

Having said that, Thresh’s playstyle changes heavily when playing with Vayne. Of course, he can still grab champions and take engages, but Thresh has more of a peeling function with Vayne.

The goal is to have Thresh stop any incoming engage that might put Vayne’s life in danger. Use the lantern (W) or Flay (E) to protect her and the ultimate (R) if needed. Remember that it slows targets by 99% for 2 seconds, making it perfect to neutralize enemies. If you want to play Vayne, Thresh is going to be no. 1 choice for engage supports.

Janna – best disengage support

Considering other support champions like Milio and Lulu were nerfed in Patch 13.12, Janna is rising as a great alternative to both and empowering Vayne’s kiting playstyle. The main reason you’re picking Janna is to allow Vayne to get a safe laning phase and buy enough time for her to scale and reach the right item spikes. Later in the game, instead, she will provide good peeling and disengage with her ultimate and tornados.

That being said, this bot lane duo requires a lot of proficiency on both champions and strong coordination. Considering both are squishy, they can be easily punished: avoid picking this pairing blind without knowing what matchup you might be going against.

Soraka – another enchanter support option for Vayne

Another enchanter support that has been rising in popularity is Soraka. With the incredible amount of healing she provides, Soraka can easily Vayne from getting burst down and allow her to dish out all her DPS.

When playing this bot lane, you want to avoid any heavy early skirmishes and focus on farming as much as possible. Vayne is weaker than most ADC early on, so don’t trade aggressively unless you’re able to get some free harass onto the enemies. Soraka should be focusing on poking with her Q and healing Vayne whenever necessary.

Once the latter gets at least two items then Vayne will become relevant in teamfights. Soraka’s job in those teamfights will be to provide consistent heals, and save the allies with her ultimate, all while not getting caught or taken down. If you’re able to play this bot lane duo really well, it has one of the highest 2v8 carry potentials in the game.
