Recently, some mobile gaming experts discovered an all-new title lined up in their Google Play stores – The Elder Scrolls: Castles. However, upon taking to the internet, it was quickly determined that nobody had heard a single thing about this game and Bethesda hadn’t taken the time to market this game. It’s a strange situation and Bethesda has very little to offer in the way of an explanation, but by all accounts, the game looks really good.

It’s a solid offering that’s essentially Fallout Shelter set in The Elder Scrolls universe. It sees players take control of a castle and a kingdom beyond that, working with a modular engine that allows them to construct that castle from the ground up. They’re charged with building a community, undertaking a series of quests, and making choices that impact their game – but that’s the duty of a leader and in The Elder Scrolls: Castles, that’s what you are.

More Mobile Madness

Mobile gaming is becoming increasingly popular these days, and we’re seeing great strides being made to advance both the software and the hardware on offer. Recently, Apple unveiled the iPhone 15, which boasts the most advanced gaming technology ever featured in a mobile device. It will be able to play AAA games like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil Village, and that’s only the beginning.

While The Elder Scrolls: Castles isn’t quite as ambitious as that, it is a relatively innovative game that’s reportedly packed full of lore. It’s authentic and represents The Elder Scrolls universe quite well, and it’s not as ‘grindy’ as Fallout Shelter. It’s a more casual, diverse experience that offers up a few key enhancements to the Fallout Shelter formula that was first published back in 2015.

At present, The Elder Scrolls: Castles is only available on Google Play and it’s a hush-hush early access phase. That’s why Bethesda Softworks has kept a lid on the project thus far, and the only comment they have to offer on the game is a relatively generic PR statement:

The Elder Scrolls: Castles is being developed by our talented mobile team behind Fallout Shelter at Bethesda Game Studios. We’re excited to share an early access version of the game with a limited number of players and listen to feedback as we improve the game over time.

If you’ve played Fallout Shelter, you’ll feel right at home with The Elder Scrolls: Castles.

What’s Happening With The Elder Scrolls

Right now, everyone is waiting for solid news regarding The Elder Scrolls VI. It was teased with a short trailer more than five years ago, but since then, everything has run silent. Recently, Bethesda’s Todd Howard went on record stating that the firm announced TES VI far too early. It’s likely it won’t be delivered for a few more years.

In the meantime, Skyrim remains popular, especially when paired up with mods, and ZeniMax’s The Elder Scrolls Online is constantly being updated by its developers. That’ll have to keep you occupied – along with Starfield – until we see a new Elder Scrolls game.
