BGIS 2023 was the first official return to BGMI tournament by Krafton for the region of India. Players from all over the nation have been able to take part in the qualifying stages of the tournament. The tournament consisted of over 2000+ teams taking part in various stages to qualify for the grand final.

The Grand Final took place in Mumbai with the last day of the event taking place on the 15th of October.  Both days had fans come in thousands to get a chance to see their favorite esports player play in front of them. I got a chance to attend the event and talk to various players from different teams.

Final Standings at Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2023

Below is the final position of all the teams in the tournament:

Gladiator Esports made sure to not give up on their dream

Gladiators were the team in second position after two days at BGIS, and ever closer to retain the crown as defending champions from winning the BGMS Lan event which took place earlier in the year. Not having the best start during day 1, it did seem like the pressure got to them.

Talking about this pressure their player Justin had the following to say.

“Now after day one it was like do or die for us today. If we had choked on Day 2 then this was there was no chance of winning on the third day. So definitely we we had to give a hundred percent today because It just matters a lot for us to be. The tournament started just now on the second day for us and we have found our momentum to play the final day with high spirits.”

Going into Day 3 it was a close battle between Gladiator and Big Brother Esports, and the final two rounds decided the final standings.

Big Brother Esports were only 9 points away

Big Brother Esports played their first LAN event in front of fans. They were the first team to win back-to-back Chicken Dinners in games 11 and 12 on Day 2. Taking about their journey Izumaki ( IGL) and Saif had the following to state:

“When Day 1 ended we were not in the best position. So we set our goal to be in the top 5 by the end of day 2. I (Uzumaki) had told my teammates not to take any form of pressure on themselves in the first few games. At the start of Day 1, there was a momentum shift against us and it took us a few games to get into the groove. Thus we could end on a high note.”

Taking about their incredible run with back-to-back wins on Day 2 Saif had this to say:

“We had decided that we want to get a minimum of 10 points during game 11. But the momentum just clicked between us and we got into our groove and then started going on the front foot. We were so confident that we could win every clash we had with a given team. After the first chicken dinner, we realised that the other teams were already under massive amounts of pressure. So it would favorable for us to put pressure on them from the start and not allow them to settle in. As we got towards the end we made sure that none of them felt confident enough to be to hold a given position on the map”

Day three was going great for Big Brother up until the last two games where they scored only 5 points in total, while Gladiator Esports scored 27 and made up all difference to earn the crown.

This was an amazing LAN event, and really put BGMI and PUBG back on the map in India. We’ve spent the better portion of this year speculating if PUBG Mobile can finally make a grand return to India and re-invigorate the scene.

The answer is a resounding YES.
