With BGMI making a comeback into India earlier this year, the 2023 esports season has been one of nostalgia, newcomers, and anticipated LAN events. Now, to close off the year, Krafton is hosting the Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) Pro Series (BMPS) 2023 Finals at the 15,000 people capacity EKA Arena in Ahmedabad from Dec. 15 to 17.
Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS) 2023: Who are the favorites?
BMPS has been held in two phases: the group stage and the finals. Unlike the BGIS, this event only featured 96 invited teams who were split into groups. They competed in a round-robin format with the top 16 teams making it to the LAN Finale.
Team Insane
Blind Esports
Growing Strong
Team Soul
Hydra Officials
Autobotz Esports
GenxFM
Team Psyche
GlitchxReborn
Team XSpark
Team Together Esports
Revenant Esports
8BitxCS
Gladiators Esports
Entity Gaming
Numen Gaming
The 16 teams feature a combination of familiar names and a few underdogs. While fan favorites, GodLike Esports failed to qualify for the finals, the immensely popular Team Soul were able to pull through. They are the defending champions and want to make sure they can win this event back-to-back. Additionally, they will be competing in this tournament as iQOO Soul following their partnership with the mobile brand.
The other team that many people have their eyes on is Team Blind. They have been in quite a bit of form this year with a stellar performance in BGIS and followed that up winning the Skyesports Championship 5.0 LAN in Bangalore.
Finally, people should keep in mind is Gladiator Esports. They had won the last official tournament, the BGIS 2023, in October in a thrilling last map defeating Big Brother Esports.
Who other teams can cause an upset at BMPS 2023?
Some names that fans should keep an eye on at the BMPS 2023 are Entity Esports, Revenant Esports, GlitchXReborn, Team Hydra, and Team Insane. Out of the following teams, Revenant Esports and GlitchXReborn had also qualified for the previous official tournament.
Revenant Esports has had a very turbulent year. They came second in the Skyesports Championship 5.0, losing the trophy to Blind by a mere few points. They will now be looking to leave a mark in this tournament. Team Insane, on the other hand, is one to watch out for as well. The team was close to disbanding before the tournament. Due to the tournament rules requiring three of the previous players to still be present, they regrouped and finished the group stage in first position.
The event will start at approximately 5 pm local time (IST) and will be streamed live on the YouTube channel Krafton India Esports in multiple languages. The teams will play 18 matches (six per day) to determine the champions.
