A leak of Modern Warfare 3 reveals first gameplay details. One detail in particular has fans rejoicing: the minimap.
After it was leaked in spring that CoD 2023 would be a sequel to MW2 and called Modern Warfare 3, there are now new leaks. And they definitely have it in them!
This info is not official though – so please view all statements with a healthy dose of scepticism.
Who is the leaker? The British Twitter channel BobNetworkUK has discovered and published secret details about Modern Warfare 3 in the code of Warzone. He posted screenshots from MW3 as proof.
What was leaked? According to this, enemies will return as red dots on the minimap, Perks are now equipment parts and weapons from the predecessor will be carried over.
Leak 1: Minimap
Probably the biggest criticism of the MW series since 2019 has been the minimap. So 2022 once again set off a wild storm of protest because enemies were not shown as red dots on the minimap when firing their weapon – as had been the tradition in previous CoD installments.
According to the new leak, they are now changing strategy and returning to the classic minimap – much to the delight of many long-time CoD fans.
Modern Warfare 3 leaks summarized
– Ninja perk returning
– Red dots on mini map
– War mode from WW2 returns
– Perks categorised into different pieces of “gear” like gloves, helmet, boots etc etc
– UI looks similar to current UI in MW2

Leak 2: Gear System
The Perks in MW3 are to be revised and integrated into a gear system. Players will be able to put on certain gear to receive perk benefits, including waistcoats, boots and gloves.
For example, you should be able to carry more grenades with a Grenadier waistcoat or two primary weapons with the Gunner waistcoat (previously: Overkill perk). The popular Ninja perk, which has been cancelled since 2019, is also to return this way.
Leak 3: Weapons from MW2
BobNetwork also claims to have discovered evidence in the game files that unlocked weapons from MW2 will be carried over in the sequel.
This would fit with the theory that CoD 2023 was initially developed as an addon for Modern Warfare 2 and later remade into a full-fledged part. The leak fuels hopes that they will be able to carry over much of the progress from the current CoD.
Note that there is a Taq-V in the corner of one of the images, and that all these guns have a marking that identifies them as MWIII guns.
Pretty much confirms MWII guns are carrying over? https://t.co/b1LRB53cvV pic.twitter.com/0jCRk5Bxju

The leaker also hints that War Mode from CoD WW2 could return. In this popular Objective variant from 2017, attackers and defenders fought over sequences of mission objectives in small multiplayer campaigns.
War Mode was developed at the time by Sledgehammer Games, who are now also said to be responsible for MW3.
