Well, there we have it – the consensus amongst the CDL squads is that a series of in-game mechanics will be GA’d ahead of the 2024 season. For those not in the know, that’s a ‘Gentlemen’s Agreement’, and it becomes an unwritten rule that something will or won’t be done or used. This time around, the bulk of the pro players have stated that snaking, ‘single tap’ and automatic tactical sprint, and sound equalisation will all be GA’d ahead of the new season, which starts in little more than a week.
It’s tough to enforce, as there are no ‘legitimate’ repercussions for breaking the GA, but in terms of competitive integrity, it casts an awful light on players who flout the agreements. For instance, let’s take snaking, an exploit of sorts that’s essentially a head glitch ramped up to 11. It’s almost instinctive for some players (*cough*, Cell) to slip into using it – it’s a force of habit at this point. So, it’s going to be nigh on impossible for them to suddenly stop doing that before the season kicks off.
What Has Been GA’d In The CDL?
Four key mechanics have been banned by the CDL pro players ahead of the season kicking off on December 8:
Automatic Tac Sprint
Single-Tap Tac Sprint
Loudness / Sound Equalisation
Snaking
For the most part, three elements are tied in together. It’s easier to snake when you’re using ‘Single-Tap’ or ‘Automatic Tac-Sprint’, so banning them all might seem moot for some fans. There has been a long-standing debate about Loudness Equalisation, and it’s a curse of the competitive scene at the moment. Put simply, Loudness Equalisation is something that can be switched on by PC players that makes it ‘easier’ to hear enemy footsteps and sounds and pinpoint where they’re coming from.
It’s a cheesy move, but it’s used by so many PC-based players – myself included. If you have a good headset, making use of Loudness Equalisation, Covert Sneakers, and the Bone Conduction Headset means you can effectively hear an enemy clean across the map. It’s genuinely something that should be GA’d, but whether everyone will abide by that – especially when playing online – is another question entirely.
When Does The CDL 2024 Season Start?
On December 8, the CDL 2024 season will kick off in earnest, and the opening fixture is Atlanta FaZe vs. Boston Breach, a scorcher of a match. It’ll be followed up by LA Thieves vs. Seattle Surge and then the battle that everyone is tuning into – OpTic Texas vs. New York Subliners. It’s one hell of an opening night, and it’ll pave the way for the Boston Breach Major that’s being held in late January.
That’s right – Boston in January. You’d better wrap up.
In order, these are the Majors taking place in the CDL 2024 season:
Boston Breach
Miami Heretics
Toronto Ultra
Carolina Royal Ravens
It’s an exciting time to be a CDL fan!
