Toronto Ultra became the first team in the CDL to hit 200 points recently, with the team boasting a remarkable record thus far of 14 – 2. It has been a stellar season for the Major I champions, but Atlanta FaZe proved to be a thorn in Ultra’s side this weekend. In a stunning sweep, FaZe decimated Ultra with a 3 – 0 win, cutting the dominant team’s win streak off at 12 consecutive victories. Following the win, social media exploded, and FaZe’s Drazah and Ultra’s Scrap got at each other’s throats.

It was a coming together of the League’s most notorious villains that quickly became personal. In a series of deleted posts, Scrap targeted Drazah’s partner and newborn child, which generated an immediate backlash on Twitter. Scrap went so far as to DM some prolific channels reuploading his posts requesting that they took them down ‘before he had them taken down’. These explosive personalities erupted – but it’s a confrontation that has been brewing for quite some time.

Shut Down The Streak

Atlanta FaZe had no issues dealing with Toronto Ultra this weekend. In a series that some dubbed awkward because of Ultra’s map picks, FaZe picked apart the number one team in the League and left them in the dust without hope of regaining. This season, Toronto Ultra has managed to beat almost every team in the CDL – including Atlanta FaZe – but a streak of a dozen wins was brought to a jarring halt this weekend.

One team that Ultra has yet to meet this season is OpTic Texas. This weekend, OpTic kept up a perfect record with a clean win against the Carolina Royal Ravens. During the match, OpTic’s Shotzzy went on a devastating spree, securing a whopping 43 kills in a round of Hardpoint and setting a new record for the Call of Duty League. At the top of the CDL standings at this stage, only OpTic Texas and the New York Subliners have perfect records.

On that note, a special commendation must be handed to the Subliners. In this round of qualifiers, the Subliners have destroyed the Heretics, FaZe, Boston, Seattle, and the Royal Ravens – and have barely broken a sweat while doing so. There are huge expectations that the team will seek a story of redemption at Major II, which is due to take place between the 21st and 24th of March in Miami.

Major Work is Needed

At the other end of the spectrum sits the likes of the Miami Heretics, Minnesota Rokkr, and LAG. They’re occupying the bottom-most slots in the CDL standings without a single win between them. It has been a miserable few weeks for the Miami Heretics – at the end of the month, the team (which is brand new this season) will welcome every organisation to Miami for Major II. Presently, the Heretics are proving to be one of the worst squads in the League.

There’s almost no time left to secure some much-needed CDL points before the Major hits, though. It’s a tense time for the teams that are proving to be floundering, including Boston, Carolina, and the LA Thieves. We love an underdog in the Call of Duty scene, but we’ve seen almost nothing to justify that adoration this season.
