MOONTON has managed to create a huge esports ecosystem for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) in many regions of the world. However, one major region that the MOBA title hasn’t captured is China.. Earlier this year, though, the path to change this began with the approval of MLBB by the country. Now, with the game available in the country, MOONTON has been pushing to grow the esports scene and has announced that China is set to be a part of the M5 World Championship Wildcard Qualifier.

M5 World Championship Wildcard: China will get the final slot

Today, MOONTON announced in a press release that the country will be receiving the final slot in the M5 World Championship Wildcard.

The Wildcard, a new competition for the M World Championship series, will make its debut in 2023. China will be one of eight teams competing in the tournament at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the two slots to the main tournament.

There are four Chinese teams in contention for the slot, but only one will fly to Malaysia. These are as follows:

Longlong Gaming (LL)
NOVA Esports (NOVA)
Keep Best Gaming (KBG)
Mi Ya Gaming (MYG)

MOONTON hasn’t revealed how it will narrow down the enemies. The company will likely hold a Qualifier between the four teams to decide the inaugural Chinese representative at the M5 World Championship.

The M5 World Championship Wildcard will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November 2023. It will feature teams from Latin America, Malaysia, Europe, South Asia, Laos, Mongolia, MENA, and finally China.

The teams will compete in the LAN event for two spots in the Group Stage of the M5 World Championship.

The Philippines is set to host the M5 World Championship in December. Sixteen teams will compete for a share of the $900,000 prize pool and the title of world champions.

China is a very lucrative market for esports. The country has a very high number of mobile gamers and huge investments towards gaming. As MOONTON attempts to make MLBB a truly global esport, cracking the Chinese market is important. The current inclusion of China is a good sign and fans will be looking to see how the region fares against some of the more experienced teams.
