The Capcom Cup X is one of the biggest events we’ve ever seen for fighting games. While the event is taking place in 2024, 2023 has seen all of the qualifiers take place. We’ve been gradually building our list of invited players as more names manage to qualify for the grand final. Most recently, Chris Wong has earned his spot at the Capcom Cup X.

This weekend we saw a few big events take place, including the France Capcom Qualifier. This was our final in person event, with quite a few of the best players turning up. How did Chris Wong earn his spot at the finales though?

Chris Wong Qualifys for Capcom Cup X at Qualifier

As the final qualifier for the Capcom Cup, the France event had some of the best players turning up. Out of over 400 players, the final bracket was stacked with the top fighting game players. ChrisWong entered on top of the winners bracket. In his first round, he took out NuckleDu with a clean 2-1 win. That’s before facing Humanbomb in the semi-finals where he extended his lead winning 3-0. In our winners final, he took out Valmaster only just winning 3-2.

The Grand Final itself saw the player up against MenaRD. After losing in the semifinals, MenaRD had fought his way back up from the losers bracket. In the first round of the finals, things looked definitively in MenaRD’s favor where he won 3-0. This forced a bracket reset, giving Chris Wong one more shot at qualification.

Coming right down to the wire, things were much closer for the final. Playing Luke against MenaRD Blanka, Won won the first set before dropping the next. Things looked a bit more evnly matched. However, Chris Wong pulled it back. He took the next two sets to win in the second round of the Finals.

Chris Wong has had a few runs at qualifying for Capcom Cup X. The player struck out at EVO, but has won their fair share of the World Warrior events. With their spot now secured at the final though, Chris Wong will have to get ready to face the best SF 6 players to compete with that record breaking final prize pool.
