At the release of the city-building simulator “Cities: Skylines 2” there were performance problems, which unfortunately were already expected by developers and the trade press. (Colossal Order), however, the development team, has stated that these problems are not in the base of the game and that they can fix them with updates.
The current difficulties are related to the game’s rendering, and reducing visual effects such as depth of field, global illumination and volumetrics can improve performance. For players experiencing low frame rates, tips such as reducing screen resolution to 1080p, turning off depth of field and volumetrics and reducing global illumination are recommended. The developers plan to release updates in the coming weeks and months to optimize various aspects of performance, including issues with certain hardware setups
The developers’ goal is to make sure “Cities: Skylines 2” runs at a minimum of 30 FPSbecause for a city-building simulation, a higher framerate doesn’t offer a significant advantage. They are also working on support for FSR2 and DLSS2 to improve performance and edge smoothing. Despite the initial problems, the developers have not postponed the game as they want to make sure players have fun, and they are working to fix the issues quickly.
