The new Call of Duty is currently inviting to the open beta. And with a small update, the first fan wishes are already being fulfilled.

While the previous Call of Duty was criticised for its unpopular design decisions, Modern Warfare 3 wants to take a different course and fulfil many fan wishes as well as focus on nostalgia. In the beta, an update now ensures that a major point of criticism is eliminated. However, not all problems are solved.

Names instead of diamonds

On 12 October, the developers released (an update) for the currently running beta of Modern Warfare 3, which is getting (a lot of praise, but also criticism) This includes, among other things, the following changes:

You can now see the names of enemies in red above their heads.

You can now sprint faster after sliding

The Striker submachine gun has been weakened

The Killstreak Guardian has been weakened

Vehicles in Ground War no longer run out of fuel when driven by players

Miscellaneous bug fixes

The change that stands out for many players is the new name tags. Previously, only a red diamond was visible above the head of an enemy operator, but now the name is always visible as well. How this looks can be seen in a Tweet from CharlieIntel:

Many fans had urgently wished for the return of the name badges. Accordingly, (the reactions) are also positive. However, it is also emphasised that a fundamental problem has not yet been solved. It would still be difficult to distinguish between enemy and allied soldiers. For example, the CoD-YouTuber (Xclusive Ace on Twitter) writes:

Just to tag on since this will get more visibility. The diamond and nameplate still blend in quite a bit with brighter backgrounds so a stroke/shadow would be a nice improvement going forward pic.twitter.com/rBWdPw1h57

The lozenge and nameplate are still quite hard to see against lighter backgrounds. A shadow would be a good improvement for the future.

This opinion is also shared by many other fans. On Reddit, for example, (CreamPyre) writes:

This is only a minor annoyance in normal game modes, but could be much more serious in hardcore mode, as also pointed out by (PhillyPhanatic141) in the same thread.

What do you guys think of the new Call of Duty so far? Do you think Modern Warfare 3 will correct many of the mistakes of its predecessor? Or are you still sceptical and waiting for the release? Have you already tried out the beta and can now better assess the shooter? Feel free to write us your opinion in the comments!
