Cs2 is here! And it comes with a new ranking system. If you’re looking to get into higher CS2 ranks, there’s a few important differences that you’ll want to get familiar with before queuing up for your Competitive matches. These pointers, tips, and tricks will help you get onto the right track before starting your Competitive climb!
First things first, let’s cover the biggest changes that CS2 ranks have received since the change from CS:GO. Starting with the most obvious change to the process of ranking up, wins and losses no longer contribute to placing you in a named tier like Silver, Gold Nova or even Global Elite. Instead, there’s a much more transparent ELO system in place, where a single number represents the sum total of the points you’ve earned towards climbing to the top of a leader board.
The second biggest change is that, despite what we just said about using a single number to represent your climb up a leader board, there’s now two leader boards to climb! CS2 Ranks are now separated between Competitive and Premier.
Competitive CS2 Ranks
Competitive is much the same as it was back in CS:GO. You’ll be placed into games based on your rank, which you earn after completing a set number of placement games. However, unique to the experience in CS2 is that the rank you earn in Competitive is no longer an overall rank for all maps. It has been changed to that you can see a separate rank for every single map you’ve played on.
These CS2 Ranks come with a leader board for each individual map. If you’ve spent the time learning the ins and outs of a particular map at a high level, say Nuke for example, you’ll be able to show off the time you’ve spent there. You can display your rating on the leader board of CS2 ranks for Nuke in Competitive.
Premier CS2 Ranks
With Premier, you have the option of chasing a rank for your overall play. This is just like Competitive used to have in CS:GO. Premier makes a few changes however. Where before you would just hop into a game from the get go, there’s a tournament style draft pick/ban system for maps much more akin to the way that CS2 Pro Players might use in professional matches.
The CS2 Rank you get from playing Premier is your CS Rating, which is unlocked after your 10th Premier match win, and is no longer separated into ranks as it was in CS:GO. Now instead the game uses an ELO system. It ranges from 0 ELO to 35000 ELO and is separated across 7 colors.
