As part of the CS Asia Championships 2023, tournament organizer Perfect World has announced that it will be hosting a CS2 Shanghai Major in 2024. The tournament will be the second Major of the year, after May’s upcoming PGL Major Copenhagen 2024.

Second CS2 Major

We’ve seen plenty of enthusiasm for competitive Counter-Strike during the CS Asia Championships 2023, showing why Shanghai is a great choice for a Major. Significantly, it will represent the first time Asia has ever hosted a CS Major. Hopefully, we see some teams from that region such as TYLOO and Lynn Vision Gaming improve to the point where they can play in front of the home crowd.

Perfect World hasn’t confirmed concrete dates for the CS2 Shanghai Major 2024. However, given PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 takes place in May, it’s safe to assume that we can expect the second CS2 Major to occur in late November / early December.

Major Rumors

Rumors swirled earlier this year around Valve opening up CS2 Major proposals for 2025 and 2026. It’s unknown if the company had decided on a CS2 Shanghai Major then, but there are some interesting tidbits reviewing that announcement.

“We typically prioritize events that take place in regions where a TO has previously held successful events.”

China hasn’t been a particularly popular location for Counter-Strike tournaments, however, it’s a show of faith from Valve to give the country its biggest honor.

“The event should be time zone convenient for a significant proportion of CS2 customers (the game has two prime-times, one at 16:00 CET and one at 21:00 CET).”

Any event held in China will fall outside of these time zones. It’ll be interesting to see how (or if) they adapt to most being in a totally different time zone. We expect to hear more about Perfect World’s CS2 Shanghai Major moving into 2024.
