The development team from Iron Wolf Studio and Daedalic Entertainment is launching the historical destroyer simulation “Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter” on December 6. In this simulation, players immerse themselves in the dramatic submarine hunts during the Second World War in the Atlantic by taking control of a faithfully recreated Fletcher-class destroyer.
The challenge: fending off submarine attacks
The game focuses on locating and neutralizing U-boats of the German Wehrmacht to protect the Allied supply convoys during the siege of the United Kingdom. With a detailed model of the Fletcher-class destroyer, players have access to authentically recreated instruments to counter the dreaded U-boat attacks of the Germans.
Realistic representation and meticulous research
The development team at Iron Wolf Studio made every effort to accurately represent each instrument in the game. To do this, they traveled to the USA to study an original destroyer and interview veterans. Back in Poland, they reproduced every detail to ensure historical accuracy
Career mode and other features
“Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter” not only offers a combat mode, but also a career mode. Here players take on the role of an aspiring captain and experience nine hand-crafted missions with authentic voice-overs and motion-capture cutscenes
Game features include procedurally generated battles, a detailed model of the destroyer, over 300 voice recordings from professional voice actors and naval cadets, and an atmospheric soundtrack.
The journey through Early Access and the upcoming release
Originally released as an Early Access game in September 2022, “Destroyer: The U-Boat Hunter” quickly gained an active community. Continuous feedback allowed the game to be improved. The developers released a final video explaining the development of the game and introducing the core mechanics to new players. With the upcoming release, the game promises an intense and authentic experience of submarine hunts in World War II.
