Genshin Impact was released as a free-to-play game back in 2020, launching first on mobile, PlayStation 4, and PC. It then landed on the PlayStation 5 a year later, in April 2021. It took the world by storm, emerging as an incredibly popular title that seemed to want to compete with the likes of Breath of the Wild, at the time. Even today, it remains strong, so much so that fans want it to expand outside of the base game. So, does Genshin Impact have an anime?
It’s where most fans want it to go next, and it honestly writes itself. Taking this game out of the hands of players and putting it on the small screen would be wonderful, as the lore and the backstory are well and truly there and established. It makes such sense for the creators – miHoYo – to push this game outside of its established boundaries and into the realms of animated media. In this guide, we’ll answer that one important question: ‘Does Genshin Impact have an anime?’
What Is Genshin Impact?
Let’s preface that answer with a little context, first of all. Genshin Impact is an open-world action RPG that became an overnight sensation back in 2020. It features sumptuous anime-styled graphics and a world that’s a pleasure to explore, boasting an entertaining battle system and dozens of characters to choose from. It can be played in party form or solo, and it has a deep and rich story that takes a while to fully understand.
It’s a game built around freedom, and the player can explore at will using an advanced traversal system that features elements of swimming, gliding, and climbing. There are unique abilities to unlock, treasure chests to find and unlock, and meals to prepare. It’s a diverse and dynamic game with plenty to see and do, and it’s being expanded all the time.
But is it being expanded with a Genshin Impact anime?
Is There a Genshin Impact Anime?
At the time of writing, there isn’t a Genshin Impact anime available to watch – but there’s one in production. It was confirmed by the game’s publisher – HoYoverse – that a Genshin Impact anime was in development. There was a short trailer released to demo this, and it was revealed that it’s being created in collaboration with Ufotable, the studio that produced Demon Slayer, one of the most popular animes on the market.
Here’s the Genshin Impact anime trailer:
There’s not much to take away from the trailer – even the base story and concept behind it are veiled. It does look fantastic, though – and it’s instantly recognisable as a Genshin Impact anime, or at least one set in the wider ‘HoYoverse’.
It has been claimed that there are 12 episodes in development, and as of 2022, a leak suggested that it took 18 months to produce three of those episodes. It might be a while before the Genshin Impact anime surfaces, but it is coming, and that’s what matters the most.
So, does Genshin Impact have an anime? Not yet – but there’s one coming for sure.
