Guilty Gear Strive is a standout title from Arc System Works. Even with more recent games and huge upcoming fighting games like GBVR, Guilty Gear remains the jewel in the developer’s current roster to a lot of players. It’s a title available across tons of different platforms though, so can you play with your friends using Guilty Gear Strive crossplay?
Crossplay has quickly become a feature that a lot of players can’t live without in games. It can let you play with friends across different platforms, and even cut down queue times on some consoles by pooling players. However, fighting games have often been slow to roll this out. Is Guilty Gear Strive crossplay?
Is Guilty Gear Strive Crossplay?
As one of the biggest fighting games, GGS has players spread among every console. There are players on PC, PS4, Xbox, even Switch and the newer gen consoles. What if you want to get to sparring with friends across platforms?
Guilty Gear Strive does have crossplay, kind of! This actually wasn’t an initial feature that shipped with the game. Instead, it was rolled out a little later as Guilty Gear made its way to more platforms. Eventually, Arc held a Guilty Gear cross platform beta test to trial the feature with PS4, PS5, and Steam. The game can now be used cross-gen and Guilty Gear Strive crossplay works great!
Crossplay means you can play with friends on any platform. There are some performance differences to keep in mind though. Someone playing on Switch might not have a close frame rate to someone playing on Steam. However, you’ll have access to all Guilty Gear Strive characters here.
Does Guilty Gear Strive Have Cross Progression?
Guilty Gear Strive crossplay is one thing, but what if you want to take your progress on one platform and continue it on another? Unfortunately, while the there is crossplay, it doesn’t have cross progression. You can take some progress across console gens. Although, not to other platforms.
If you’re primarily playing the game to increase your skill though, that definitely does cross over! Once you’ve learnt fighting game strategy for the game on PC, you’ll still have an advantage on a new platform.
What is Crossplay and Cross Progression?
While Guilty Gear Strive is crossplay, it doesn’t have cross progression. What exactly is the difference? Both are features you’ll see pop up quite a bit, but crossplay is definitely a lot more common.
Crossplay is where you can play with friends across platforms. You can have 1-v-1s on the best Swich and PS4 fighting games, even if you own them on a different platform to your friend. This means there are no barriers to playing together even if you go for different systems. PC players can even join with their console friends. There can be a performance difference between platforms, but in theory it’s a fair match between players.
Cross progression on the other hand is a bit rarer. It’s where an account in-game can carry its progress or purchases to another platform. Unlock something on Xbox, but the game on PC and keep your performance. Guilty Gear Strive doesn’t have this unfortunately, but it isn’t a game with a lot of complex progression.
Guilty Gear Strive does have crossplay though. You can easily play with any friends on any platform.
