The Bali Major 2023 is just around the corner, and what better time to evaluate the competition in this season’s final major.

Fortunately, DreamLeague S20 (currently underway) gives us a glimpse into how well the participants fair up against its inter-region rivals.

Qualified Teams at Bali Major 2023

Bali Major 2023 Power Rankings

We will rate each team in terms of how likely they will secure the top eight finish in the Bali Major. Since eighth place is the minimum ranking a team needs to earn DPC points from the Bali Major. Considering this is the only major remaining for these teams to earn one last surge in DPC points, it all boils down to the top-eight winners.

8. Bleed Esports

Debuting in their first major is Bleed Esports from Southeast Asia. With no former accomplishments on the international-level, it’s definitely far-fetched to consider Bleed among the potential top-eights in Bali Major. Yet, it is a recent trend in the third Tour of Dota Pro Circuit 2023 (DPC 2023), as several major staples did not make the cut. Nevertheless, Bleed won first place in SEA Division 1, which puts them well above your average SEA team.

Additionally, we have quite the power roster in Bleed, featuring ex-Fnatic players, such as Daryl “iceiceice” Koh and Djardel “DJ” Mampusti. The two veteran players have accomplished a lot in the name of SEA throughout the Internationals, so they will surely be a strong candidate at Bali Major.

Another honorable mention from SEA is Blacklist International, which could potentially give Bleed a run for their money as they have defeated Bleed previously. Both teams have one crucial accomplishment in common, that is defeating Talon Esports in SEA’s DPC Season.

7. Tundra Esports

Tundra Esports, the International 11 Champion, is also known as the Big Trio from Western Europe. While they have their moments throughout the last two majors, the Bali Major might not end well for Tundra.

Oliver “skiter” Lepko recently shared during his interview at DreamLeague S20 that Tundra might not be with their full squad at the Bali Major. They are currently playing with two stand-ins at DreamLeague S20, so it won’t be shocking if they have the same subs during Bali Major too.

As such, this handicap will likely be detrimental to Tundra’s performance. But, surely, the TI11 Champs can hold their own to at least secure top eight.

6. Shopify Rebellion

The North American powerhouse, Shopify Rebellion, is a recurring team to make it into our Majors Power Rankings. Although SR did not perform as expected at Berlin Major, they still deserve the recognition for their performance at Lima Major.

As they remained untouchable in the NA Division 1, it’s always reliable to have the ex-Evil Geniuses squad on our power rankings.

5. Team Liquid

The two-time Major runner-up placing fifth in our Bali Major Power Rankings is surely a controversial opinion. However, considering the other anomalies as we go higher into the power rankings, it’s justifiable.

Team Liquid has already been eliminated at the DreamLeague S20, losing to PSG.LGD, Tundra Esports and Talon Esports. Losing to Tundra, which is already handicapped, and Talon Esports, which didn’t even qualify for Bali Major, certainly leaves a bad taste in their reputation.

4. Team Aster

The highly-anticipated Team Aster needs no introduction after a parade of recognition and hype surrounding its newest member. Having Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan as their mid-player is arguably the most impactful roster change Aster had this season, and fans have high hopes for the King to deliver.

That said, it’s wiser to not place Team Aster amongst the top three just yet because they are still a relatively new line-up. Despite the expectations on Aster, they only secured third place at China Division 1 bracket and is seemingly struggling in DreamLeague S20 too.

3. Evil Geniuses

The South American superstars, Evil Geniuses, have mostly gone under the radar despite their consistent results throughout DPC 2023. They placed fourth and fifth place at Berlin and Lima Majors respectively, so that’s a good sign the young talents in EG are still worth the hype revolving their debut last TI.

For the uninitiated, the EG line-up comprised of ex-Thunder Awaken and beastcoast players, that rocked the TI11 fans with their phenomenal performance.

2. 9Pandas

Hailing from the Eastern Europe is 9Pandas, which won third place at Berlin Major. They have eventually become the fan favorite from the region, overtaking Team Spirit and BetBoom team. Yet, it’s important to note that 9Pandas still placed below its two regional rivals at the EEU Division 1.

However, 9Pandas often delivers their best performance in the majors. At least, better than its peers from EEU.

1. Gaimin Gladiators

Gaimin Gladiators won the Berlin Major 2023

Gaimin Gladiators needs no introduction as the two-time Major Champions of DPC 2023. With yet another overwhelming performance in WEU, fans are rooting for Gaimin to win the Bali Major too, to become a three-time champion.

There are many records to break, and if there’s a team that can pull that off. It’s definitely Gaimin Gladiators.

The Bali Major Power Rankings could arguably be our most uncertain one yet, especially with the many newcomer teams making their first debut. Several honorable mentions include Bleed Esports, Blacklist International, nouns, Azure Ray and Quest Esports.

Hence, it would be exhilarating if these underdogs turned out to be much greater than what we initially expected of them.
