What’s changing in FC24’s career mode this year? EA explains in detail all the new features and mechanics.

Career mode is still considered one of the most popular game modes in the series formerly known as FIFA. Also in EA Sports FC 24 there is this mode, and just like in FIFA before, people who don’t like Ultimate Team very much, romp around here.

However, the career mode has also lost the reputation of rarely being improved extensively. For EA Sports FC 24, however, there are definitely (some innovations), but whether they completely change the gameplay is another question.

Total Management: It’s all about your tactics

The biggest innovation in the manager’s career mode is the tactics you choose. You can now think of a tactic for your team right at the beginning of your career and then direct all your efforts towards it. This tactical vision can correspond to one of seven standard game forms:

Standard: The best mix of attack and defence.

Wing Play: You try to get your offense going mainly through wide out wings.

Tiki-Taka: The classic Spanish style of play revolves around possession and lots of little short passes.

Counter-Attack: You don’t take any risks, drop back in front of the penalty area and then counter the opponent.

Counter-attack: The opponent has no air to breathe and is attacked immediately in their own third to keep the pressure high.

Kick & Rush: You regularly kick the ball far forward where your athletic forwards take every chance.

Park the Bus: In Italy, this tactic is more commonly known as catenaccio. You rely on a disciplined defence that keeps the ball away from goal and prepares pinpricks.

You can also adapt these tactical templates to a certain extent and give certain instructions to positions, for example. You can also assign several strategies to your game plan and, for example, switch from wing play to counter-pressing in the middle of the game.
(If you know how to play Tiki Taka, you’ll never give the ball away.)

Coaches, players and opponents

Which tactics you prefer will also affect areas off the pitch. For example, you want to make sure that your players fit the system and your coaches should also pass on the tactical vision well to the stars. Oh, and opponents have a system too, of course.

Coaches: You can now hire coaches for each division (attack, midfield, defence, goal) to improve the stats of your players. How effective this is depends on the skill level of the coach and how well he masters the tactical vision.

Players: A player’s stats can also fit the system or not. Therefore, you can now actively look for suitable players when scouting.

Opponents: With the new match reports you can better analyse an opponent before the match. Here you can find out how they are likely to line up, what their style of play is and which players fulfil the most important roles.

Other innovations

Besides the big focus on different tactical visions, there are also more adjustments that should improve the career mode. Here is an overview:

Match Ready Training: You can gear your training towards overcoming an opponent in a certain way, unlocking certain match skills for your players for a match.

Tactical View: If you’d rather just watch than play, you can choose from several angles. You can even look over your coach’s shoulder.

Transfers: Clubs should pay more attention to whether certain young stars have what it takes to become world stars when looking for new players.

Dynamic moments: There are more CGI sequences celebrating. For example, a bus tour through the city after a title win or the awarding of the Ballon d’Or.

Agents: In the player career, your player can now hire his own agent to help in all situations.

What do you think of these new features? Will it make the career mode exciting again or does it all sound like another half-baked improvement? What would you like to see instead? Post it in the comments
