ESL Pro League Season 18 Group B Review | Heroic Flop

We’re at the halfway stage of the ESL Pro League Groups for Season 18, after the conclusion of Group B. In what could be the final CS:GO competitive tournament, we’ve already been witness to some incredible plays, and some huge shocks along the way.

Read on to find out what happened when the teams jumped on the server in ESL Pro League Season 18 Group B!

Upper Bracket

The Upper Bracket of ESL Pro League Season 18 saw ENCE secure a Quarter-Final place as winners of Group B. It was another impressive run from ENCE, who have firmly established themselves among the CS:GO competitive elite. They’re in great form at the moment, and move forward as one of the tournament favorites.

Meanwhile, it was BIG joining ENCE. It’s been a great start to life with this refreshed German roster, exceeding most people’s expectations so far. While they may have lost to ENCE in the Upper Bracket Final, there were still plenty of positive signs for the team, who kept things competitive. They enter the Playoffs in the Round of 12, giving their fans plenty to be excited about.

Lower Bracket

In the Lower Bracket of the ESL Pro League Groups, MOUZ came out on top. What a run it was for the young team, whose oldest player is torzsi at 21. After they immediately lost the opener to MIBR, it was always going to be a long road back for the roster. Convincing wins against Evil Geniuses, Heroic, and MIBR meant the Last Chance Bracket wasn’t even needed here, and they did so without dropping a single map.

When we spoke with MOUZ torzsi prior to Group B, he claimed that Playoffs would be a solid tournament for the team. With that now done and dusted, any more experience they can gain is just a bonus. Don’t count them out, though. They’ve made the Playoffs for a reason.

Last Chance Bracket

The big story of the Last Chance Bracket is of course Heroic‘s failure to qualify from Group B. After an opening 2-0 victory over Rooster, it seemed as though it was going to be business as usual for the Danes. However, comprehensive defeats against BIG, MOUZ, and Monte ensured Heroic would fail to make Playoffs in a tournament for the first time in 2023.

It’s unlikely they’ll hit the panic button yet. Heroic resisted CS:GO roster changes during the Summer break, and one missed Playoffs shouldn’t change that. There is something not quite right with this team at the moment, and they need to rectify it before it gets out of hand.

Don’t let this take away from Monte, who ground out the ESL Pro League Groups at the final opportunity. They looked extremely impressive against both Heroic and MIBR, and appear to have overcome the Summer loss of BOROS to Falcons already. Monte will now enter the Playoffs in the Round of 16, where they could be set to do some damage yet.
