The next Tekken game is coming up soon, with even more content getting shown off pretty regularly. It has some steep competition from titles like Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1, so the picks for Teken 8 characters have a lot riding on them. The roster choice can make this the best Tekken ever, or one fans might want to forget. So far things look bright though, at least looking at the Tekken 8 leaks for the roster and those officially announced. We’re getting a huge roster of 36 Tekken 8 characters launching with the game.
While the latest instalment in this one of the top fighting games series is still a little way off, we’ve got a good idea of all characters that are going to be on the Tekken 8 roster. Plus, a glimpse at those that might be coming later through the Tekken 8 leaked characters!
These are all of the Tekken 8 characters we know about so far and who they all are.
All Confirmed Tekken 8 Characters
Tekken has had a wider trailer which showed off a lot of how the game worked. However, individual Tekken 8 characters have also been getting their own trailers, showing off everything that makes them tick and how they’ve changed in the latest title. These are all of the Tekken 8 characters we’ve had confirmed so far that we’ll see in Tekken 8 early access and the launch day.
Jin Kazama
Jin is basically the protagonist of Tekken, at least since the third game. He’s obviously returning in this title, you don’t need to scour a Tekken 8 leak to learn that. However, he may have a more expansive role, as the Tekken 7 story has concluded the last plot and Jin is ready to take back the spotlight.
Devil Jin
Devil Jin has also been spouted as one of the Tekken 8 characters shown so far. This could be accessible as a transformation or a separate character.
Kazuya Mishima
Kazuya is another easy inclusion on the Tekken 8 roster. He’s the primary antagonist of the series and a powerful villain. He likely has the same transformation powers as previous games too.
Devil Kazuya
Devil Kazuya is one of the transformation Tekken 8 characters which make the roster. This character had a more complicated Tekken 7 character unlock, so hopefully they’re a fully formed character this time.
Jack-8
Jack-8 the cyborg fighter is back too, looking stronger than ever with the revamped style. We don’t know everything about his moves yet but Jack-8 is always one of the more fun picks.
Jun Kazama
Jun Kazama is a really fun inclusion, showing up in the mainline series for the first time in ages! If you’re a big fan of PS3 fighting games like Tekken Tag then you’ll likely remember here. It’s great that the series is reaching further into its past to flesh out the Tekken 8 roster.
King
The Leopard headed fighter is back as one of the Tekken 8 characters. King the second is one of the best grapplers out there and a key part of the roster. He’s still part way through some longer stories with as of yet unreleased characters, so he might be a clue to others showing up in this game.
Lars Alexandersson
Lars makes a return here too, in a smaller role than his debut. He was the main character back in Tekken but here will likely be another supporting member of the roster.
Marshall Law
Marshall Law is a character who makes it in alongside Paul Phoenix as a more fun double act. His design is fun here too and takes advantage of the increased graphical quality for Tekken 8 characters.
Nina Williams
Nina Williams got a whole trailer and release build up to herself with the latest game. She has a new design which definitely brightens things up for the character. Her moveset is going to include guns which adds some variety to the Tekken 8 roster.
Paul Phoenix
Paul Phoenix is coming back in the latest Tekken game. In previous titles he’s been a more comedic character, but his hyper-aggressive attacks and specials make him feel pretty serious in Tekken 7 Ranked mode, hopefully he’s just as fun here.
Ling Xiaoyu
Ling makes a return this game, complete with her unique dancing fighting style. She’s a more supporting character but could be featured more heavily if Tekken 8 characters feature in a fuller story mode.
Leeroy Smith
Leroy is staying in the roster despite being a DLC addition to Tekken 7, which is great for his devoted fans. As part of the launch roster, no one has to obsess over each Tekken 8 leak to see if he returns! He has a fun weapon in game which makes his moveset one of the more interesting.
Asuka Kazama
We’re getting more than Kazama in the Tekken 8 roster this time around! Asuka hasn’t ever had a big role in Tekken’s world but this title could be the one that pushes her into the limelight.
Emilie “Lili” De Fochefort
Lili is also returning, with her trailer playing into a rivalry with Asuka. This is great for giving both of them a bit more characterisation in the actual story.
Hwoarang
Hworant is another older character returning, having first appeared in Tekken 3. He’s not had a major role in the story for the game but the latest title could change that.
Bryan Fury
Brian Fury is another returning character revealed in the build-up to the full Tekken 8 roster. He’s a cyborg like Jack, but with a bit more of a human design!
Tekken 8 Leaked Characters
Along with all of those confirmed fighters coming to the game, there’s going to be more. We don’t have the full roster yet, but some Teken 8 leaks have revealed quite a few of the other Tekken characters showing up. These are those that have leaked so far.
Yoshimitsu
Alex
These characters were spotted in behind-the-scenes footage shown in a news report on the game’s development on Japanese station NHK. The leaks actually came through recording motion capture for the characters. Their costumes and movements associated with their moves were being performed by the actors! While we shouldn’t know about these characters right now, dedicated fans were sharp enough to spot these two as a Tekken 8 leak just from just this little footage!
Tekken 7 characters we’d like to see
Those are all of the Tekken 8 characters we know about so far. What about the Tekken 7 roster though?
Looking at the past game’s final line-up of characters can give us a hint about what’s coming next for the Tekken 8 roster. These are the characters from Tekken 7 that we haven’t seen in the sequel just yet. Although, in here there are some that might not be coming back, like the Street Fighter crossover characters.
