Throughout 2023, the FaZe Clan Counter-Strike team has faced plenty of criticism for its tournament performances. Pre-CS2 release, the team had only won ESL Pro League Season 17 this year, and looked a far cry from their dominant 2022. Recently, they’ve had a change in fortunes – let’s take a look at why…

If FaZe have competed in a CS2 tournament, they’ve won it. IEM Sydney 2023, Thunderpick World Championship 2023, CS Asia Championships 2023. All won by FaZe Clan. They’re currently on a monstrous 15-match winning streak in CS2, proving absolutely dominant in the new game. They’re not quite the 87-0 NIP, but who is?

A huge catalyst for the improvement is ropz. He’s been the best in the world at the new game, eclipsing even ZywOo (for now). Everyone has played their part though – even karrigan has improved in the fragging department.

On top of this, it’s all about motivation. Every member of the FaZe Clan Counter-Strike roster spoke about the lack of motivation for CS:GO after CS2 was announced. It’s understandable that a forward-thinking team like FaZe struggled while CS2 was around the corner. Now, they just want to be the best in the new game. Winning three tournaments in a row is remarkable consistency, and for now, they look set to remain the best CS2 team in the world.

Twistzz Out?

Amidst the mountains of CS2 roster rumors floating around, one continues to persist: Twistzz back to Team Liquid. Alongside cadiaN, he seems destined to make the move, breaking up the FaZe Clan Counter-Strike 2 team just as it finds its groove.

The GameSquare acquisition of FaZe Clan raises further questions about the team’s future, with the company also owning Complexity. It’s a clear conflict of interest, especially when they compete against each other on the server.

With all of this in mind, the future of the FaZe Clan Counter-Strike team seems desperately uncertain despite current successes. They’ve proven to be one of the great CS:GO teams, and carried that into CS2 with style. Let’s enjoy them together while we have them.
