In CS2, being able to communicate with your teammates at all times is arguably the biggest key to success. But ever since the launch of the game, some players have been reporting a CS2 mic not working bug that stops you from chatting with your team. In CS2, this is pretty much the worst thing that can happen.

We’re going to walk you through a few steps you can take to fix the CS2 mic not working bug so you can get back on your feet in the server.

Fix CS2 mic not working in PC settings

We’re going to start out at the most basic level – in the settings of your PC and CS2. Sometimes, audio devices can do some funky stuff, often defaulting to the wrong one. If your CS2 mic is not working but works in Discord, this might be the solution to your problem.

First, type “Manage input sound devices” into Windows.
Ensure that under the “Input” section, your microphone is selected as default. If you have multiple input devices, you’ll be able to choose between them.

If you want to know how to fix mic not working in CS2, this is a good place to start. If this doesn’t fix the CS2 mic not working bug for you, it’s time to head in-game.

Fix CS2 mic not working in-game

Now, you need to head to the in-game settings to try to fix the CS2 mic not working bug. There are a few different things you can try here.

Under the “Audio” section of the in-game CS2 settings, make sure your “Video Input Audio Device” is set to your microphone. If this just says “Default Device,” change it – this may be the cause of your issues.
If that doesn’t fix it, change “Streamlined Push To Talk” to “Yes.” If it’s already set to “Yes,” then change it to “No.” It may seem strange, but swapping these around has proven to be a solution to the CS2 mic not working bug for many in the community.

Still not working? We’ve got one more thing that may help you learn how to fix a mic not working in CS2. Head to your “Keyboard/Mouse” section of the settings and make sure you’ve got a binding for the “Use Microphone” setting. As silly as it may sound, you may have accidentally unbound your microphone key. It’s worth a look if nothing else is working for you.

Fix CS2 mic not working in Steam

So we’ve tried in Windows, and we’ve tried in CS2 itself. So what’s left? Your next best bet is to look directly within Steam.

Go to your Steam settings, either directly through the client or through CS2’s Shift + Tab menu.
Find the “Voice” tab along the side.
Change “Voice Input Device” to your microphone. Again, you may find this is set to Default. Change it.
If your mic is working but is just extremely quiet, up the value of the “Input volume/gain” setting.

Hopefully, you’ve found one of these options successful for the CS2 mic not working bug. It’s a pain that players are having to deal with at the moment, and with no one fix guaranteed to work, it’s all about trying the different options until one fixes it.
