Mortal Kombat 1 had a strong launch in September, but over the months players have found a few issues with the title. One of the biggest lately is with monetization. As a response to the recent backlash, developers will be offering new free MK 1 fatalities.
The bigger storm over monetization began over Halloween. Quite a few of the biggest fighting games offered Halloween content, but MK 1’s was a bit different. Their fatalities for the season, was on sale for about $10. A lot of players felt this was pretty egregious of an asking price for an optional cutscene. It wasn’t like the Halloween inclusion was the best MK fatality of all time or anything. Developers have instead decided to row back and start offering free MK 1 fatalities to make up for this.
Free MK 1 Fatalities Coming Soon
The Halloween fatalities problem was enough to leave a bad taste in a few players mouths. In a recent update, it looked like developers might be doubling down on that. However, with clarification it has turned out there will be free fatalities to try and make up for the problems. They’ve announced a new batch of Mortal Kombat Fatalities coming soon, the Seasonal Fatalities. This is going to consist of fatalities themed around Thanksgiving, Halloween, and Winter. What about those who already purchased the MK 1 Halloween fatality though?
In response to backlash over pricing, they’ve decided to do something about it. Anyone who who bought the Halloween Fatalities will get these now, as free MK1 Fatalities.
The move will definitely please those unhappy with the price they paid for fatalities recently. Although, the scale of sold MK fatalities is definitely beyond what we’ve seen in the past. While increased monetization is definitely going to be a factor, we’ll have to deal with moving forward, hopefully moves like giving out the free MK 1 fatalities will help to keep the good will of fans with all this going on.
