The curtain has been drawn on the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Opening Stage, bringing to a close an epic few days of CS. 24 teams have become 16, competing to become the first-ever CS2 Major winners.
On the final day, six teams fought for the final three slots in the Elimination Stage. In the end, it was TheMongolZ, Imperial, and FURIA that claimed them – we’re going to take a look at how they did it.
TheMongolZ fight back
TheMongolZ have had a hell of a tournament so far. We pegged them among the favorites to progress through the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Opening Stage, a prediction that looked in dire straits after the opening day as they fell into the 0:2 bracket. They’ve looked immense since that first day, and when it mattered most, had far too much to offer Legacy as they defeated the Brazilians 2:0.
TheMongolZ’ mzinho can be so proud of his performance here. At just 16 years old, he dominated the series and single-handedly won TheMongolZ several tough rounds. He’s a star in the making, and we can’t wait to see what mzinho has to offer in the Elimination Stage.
Imperial stun GamerLegion
Throughout the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, we’ve praised Imperial plenty so far. So much so, that they probably didn’t deserve to be in the 2:2 bracket. We were pretty confident they had enough to take down GamerLegion, although it wasn’t exactly clean in a 2:1 series that could have gone either way.
During the tournament so far, young guns noway and decenty have been the stars. But here, it was older heads, felps and HEN1, who led the way, bringing experience and composure to get Imperial over the line. There’s something so likable about this roster, and while we think they’re not long for the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 in the Elimination Stage, we desperately hope they prove us wrong. Let’s see them on the big stage in Denmark’s Royal Arena.
FURIA defy the odds
Like TheMongolZ, FURIA found themselves in a sticky situation after day one of the PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. It’s been a clean record since for the Brazilian roster, besting SAW in the final match of the Opening Stage. On the day, it was veteran AWPer FalleN who really stepped up, delivering the sort of performance you’d have expected to see from him in the Luminosity and SK Gaming days.
FURIA might well be many players’ choices to go 0:3 in the next stage of PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 Pick’Ems, but not for us. They’ve warmed up in Denmark, and we think they’ll take a series or two in the Elimination Stage.
