GIANTX – a new merge coming to the LEC

The newly formed entity will retain all talents, rosters, and content creators from both teams. This means that GIANTX will be competing in League of Legends’ LEC and VALORANT’s EMEA League. XL Esports was previously the owner of the franchise spot in the LEC while Giants was the partner team for the VCT EMEA in VALORANT.

According to the release, the new brand will be looking to expand to more games in the future. That being said, no new titles were revealed in the announcement. Considering the two organizations come from the UK and Spain, GIANTX aims to further ‘global partnerships that resonate with its esports demographic’.

Additionally, XL has a presence in VCT Game Changers and EA Sports FC while Giants has players in FGC and the LVP, the Spanish ERL in League of Legends.

No major organizational changes after the merge

GIANTX will be led by the two companies’ CEOs, Tim Reichert and Jose Diaz. Both will act as co-CEOs, with the leadership team being formed by Chief Commercial Officer and former EXCEL ESPORTS Commercial Director, Mark Carter, Chief Strategy Officer and Giants Gaming Co-Owner, Virginia Calvo, and Vice President of Marketing and Brand, Oskar Sisi.

Co-CEO Tim Reichert said that the merger will allow the new brand to expand its global audience and optimize its competitive strategies, creating a “formidable new force in European Esports.”

The company will keep all of its employees and maintain both regional headquarters in London and Malaga. The goal is to reach both English and Spanish-speaking audiences, leveraging both demographics with bilingual content, something that organizations like MAD Lions have done in the past years.

José Díaz, Co-CEO of GIANTX, commented on the merger: “Launching GIANTX represents an extraordinary opportunity. After multiple achievements and years of leadership in the industry, where Giants has become one of the major references in the Spanish-speaking market, it’s time to evolve and take a new leap.
