Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising is one of the biggest fighting releases of 2023. Coming late in December, it’s been a fun addition to the FGC. Launching in a bit of a downtime though, we’ve only had limited tournaments so far. A new one has just been announced that’ll make sure the game’s esports get off to a big start, the GranBlue Fantasy Versus Rising Regional Majors.

These new tournaments have just been announced with events happening the world over. All three will take place in January, ensuring the game starts right for its first year of competitive play. So far the game looks like a fun inclusion to fighting game esports, and it’ll be great to start seeing more tournaments. How will the Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Regional Majors work?

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Regional Majors

A new series of regional tournaments have been announced for GBVR. While already existing events, some have been boosted into being three individual Regional Majors. One for Japan, one for France, and one for the US. This tournament will be an early chance to test out the game’s changes and how they fare in a competitive setting. While they’re not adding any extra cash to the prize pool. However, the Regional Majors will still offer something to competitors.

Players can unlock a unique character color for competing in this event. This is on top of the event’s normal prize pool and goes to everyone who is involved! The first of these Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising Regional Majors is the Cygames Cup Special. That’s taking place over January 20-21 in Tokyo. The second is the Kayane Cup, taking place in Paris on January 21. The final is Frosty Faustings XVI, which is happening over the January 25-28 weekend in Chicago.

We’re still waiting until the new year to see how Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising will be represented at major events like big circuits. It’s great to get these tournaments in the meantime though.
