In a press release published to detail the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6, eagle-eyed players spotted one huge gap in the information. At no point does it mention that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released on PC platforms when it drops in 2025. Following the early release of the first GTA 6 trailer – thanks to a leak – Rockstar Games has showcased the next generation of this legendary franchise to fans the world over, but some are already starting to feel left out.

It’s important to stress that this is also a ‘current-gen’ game only. It’s something that we could have guessed with almost 100% certainty, but Grand Theft Auto 6 will not be released on the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One consoles. If you’ve seen the trailer (which is below), then you’ll understand why that is. It’s already shaping up to be one of the most visually impressive games we’ve ever seen, and as it’s being released in 2025, it has almost two more years to be polished even further.

The Cycle Continues

Historically, this is the trend for Rockstar Games titles. For instance, Grand Theft Auto 5 was released on consoles in 2013, and it was a full two years later that it launched on PC. In 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 was released globally, and in 2019, it finally dropped on PC platforms. It’s likely how things are set to work with Grand Theft Auto 6, with the PC version following the PS5 and Xbox versions of the game a year or two later.

In the press release that was published to detail the game’s reveal, Sam Houser, the Founder of Rockstar Games, said:

Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences. We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.’

It’s a vision that’ll be shared with players everywhere – but if you’re on PC, you might be missing out. It’ll easily drive up console sales the world over, as Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to break the bank when it’s released in 2025. In just six hours, the trailer racked up more than 50 million views, and that’s without counting the tens of millions of views across every other platform that shared the one-minute-thirty-second-long trailer.

It Took Ten Years

It was a decade ago that Grand Theft Auto 5 was released, but it still sits at the top of the charts today. It’s a monumental title that still brings in hundreds of millions of dollars for Rockstar Games, but it’s not really known what’s going to happen to the platform – particularly the online portion – when GTA 6 is released. One thing is for certain – very few people will be looking back at Los Santos when presented with the modern-day remaster of Vice City in the fictionalised state of Leonida.
