This news comes amidst this year’s Halo World Championship, which is unravelling as we speak with OpTic Gaming sitting at the forefront of the competition. This is exciting news for Halo fans the world over, and it comes just days after the reveal of the fifth season of Halo Infinite actively impressed fans of the game.

It may not be the most popular esports title in the world, but Halo has undergone something of a resurgence in recent years. For the longest time, people thought that Halo esports had died a painful death, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s holding its own, and there’s a vibrant and dedicated community at the heart of the series that’s keeping the esports side of the Halo universe held up on its shoulders.

It isn’t yet known when the HCS 2024 season will begin, where or when the Majors will take place, or what the Halo World Championship will look like next year, but we know it’s coming. At the moment, fans of the franchise are preparing to soak up the fifth season of Halo Infinite, which brings countless changes to the game. From an all-new battle pass to returning, fan-favourite game modes, and from new maps to Championship skins, there’s a lot to absorb in this update.

For some, Halo is considered the forefather of modern esports – especially in the first-person shooter category. It used to compete with Call of Duty, and many of COD’s best pro players transitioned across the wire from the competitive Halo scene. That’s certainly true for OpTic Gaming’s ‘FormaL’ and OpTic Texas’ ‘Shotzzy’ – both of these players have won world championship titles in both Halo and Call of Duty.

It was a sad phase for a while when the Halo Championship Series was pushed down into a state of nothingness, and this resurgence of sorts is a very welcome sight today. If there’s one thing that esports fans appreciate, it’s the diversity of the games on offer. There’s something special about Halo esports, as the game itself remains exciting and entertaining to watch – and personally, I’m very happy that there’s an all-new competitive season in the works.
