The commander of the Xianzhou Luofu has finally arrived in the game and is available in the new limited character warp. We tell you how to build and upgrade the commander.

The first limited banner after Seele is upon us and Jing Yuan is now available in Honkai: Star Rail. Whether the lightning character is worth it for you and how to build him, you can find out in our guide.

Is Jing Yuan worth it?

Before you decide to build a character in Honkai: Star Rail, you have to get it first. Easier (and cheaper) said than done, as Star Rail characters are largely unlocked via the Gacha system

So the first question is: Is Jing Yuan worth it?

The answer is simple: 100%. At least meta-technically, Jing Yuan is one of the strongest DPS characters in the game and is therefore also worthwhile for those players who are not necessarily convinced by his story or his character design.

Nevertheless, as always with Gacha, players should keep an eye on their wallets. So only spend what you can afford and don’t get caught up in the gambling factor.

What skills does Jing Yuan have?

In addition to the standard attack, Jing Yuan, like every character in Star Rail, also has Talent, Technique, Skill, and Ultimate.

Talent: Prana eradicated
Summons the Lightning Lord at the start of combat with a speed of 60 and a hit count of 3. Attacks of the Lightning Lord are counted as consequential damage. Attacks of the Lightning Lord inflict lightning damage on a random enemy and adjacent enemies. The Lightning Lord’s hit count can be increased up to 10. Each additional hit count increases the Lightning Lord’s speed by 10. If Jing Yuan is incapacitated (whether by KO or debuff), the Lightning Lord cannot perform an action either. At the end of his action, the Lightning Lord’s hit count is reset to 3.

Skill: Split Zenith
Does lightning damage to all enemies and increases the Lightning Lord’s hit count by 2.

Ultimate: Lightbringer
Requires 130 Energy. Inflicts lightning damage to all enemies and increases the Lightning Lord’s hit count by 3.

Technique: Spirit Summoning
Increases the Lightning Lord’s hit count by 3 in the first round of the next battle

How does Jing Yuan play?

Jing Yuan is an Electro character and as a member of the Path of Scholarship (Erudition), he is inherently pre-destined as a DPS character who deals mainly AoE damage. However, unlike other characters from the erudition such as Himeko, Jing Yuan is also very strong on single targets such as boss fights. The reason for this is the core of Jing Yuan’s abilities, the Lightning Lord.

The tooltips for the Blitzlord are very complicated at first glance, but the whole thing plays easier than you think. The Lightning Lord is simply another character that, independent of Jing Yuan, appears in the turn list and delivers its damage.

As seen in the picture, the Blitzlord with a hit count of 5 is left below Dan Heng in the round list. The hit count can also be seen in Jing Yuan’s status at the bottom of the picture. The higher the number of hits of the Lightning Lord, the more attacks he performs as soon as it is his turn.

So for maximum damage you should get the hit count as high as possible with Jing Yuan’s ability, Ultimate and speed buffs from allies (Tingyun is a strong combination, more on that later) before the Lightning Lord then acts. Because the number of attacks depends only on the number of hits and not on the number of opponents, Jing Yuan can do great damage even on single targets.

However, it is important to note that his standard attack has no influence on the number of hits of the Lightning Lord. So Jing Yuan actually wants to use an ability point every round to use Split Zenith to increase the hit count.

So pay attention to the management around your ability points when using Jing Yuan!

How to build Jing Yuan?

To get the maximum damage potential out of Jing Yuan you have to optimise your relics. Especially the “Ribbon of Crackling Thunder” set is tailor-made for him.

Jing Yuan benefits from the full set, so make sure you equip all 4 parts on him. For the Planar Sphere and Link Rope slots, the “Regless Salsetto” set is best, with some spacing you can also “Space Station for Sealing “ use.

You should have the following stats on the relics:

Body: KRIT rate

Feet: ANG%/Speed

Planar Sphere: Lightning Damage

Connecting Rope: ANG%

For substats you should follow this priority:

KRIT Damage = KRIT Rate ☻ ANG% ☻ Speed

While doing this, also try to follow the rule of thumb that for every one percent increase in critical hit rate, you have two percent critical damage.

For leveling tracks, you should prioritize “Formation Breaker” and “All Planned”. Besides these two bonuses, you should focus on the improvements of Talent, Ultimate and the Skill, as well as the permanent Stat Buffs.

Which weapon is the best for Jing Yuan?

Jing Yuan’s personal light cone “Before the Dawn” is by far his strongest weapon.  “Before the Dawn” is generally the best erudition weapon in the game right now, but can only be acquired through the gacha.

Which team compositions should you have?

Ideally, Jing Yuan should play the role of the main DPS in your team. Example team for the small purse would be about the following lineup:

Jing Yuan, Natasha, Fire Protagonist, Tingyun

This covers everything important, from healing and shields to buffs to increase Jing Yuan’s damage.

If you’re a little deeper in the pocket, then a hypercarry composition is also a good option, such as the following:

Jing Yuan, Tingyun, Bailu, Bronya

But note that depending on the game content, you adjust your team according to the conditions. A team for Universe Simulation is very different from one for the higher levels of Forgotten Halls. Elemental weaknesses should also always be taken into account.

With Jing Yuan, you will definitely have enough damage with you so that if you have lightning weaknesses on the opponent, you can easily run a composition of Jing Yuan with tank, healer and support according to personal preference.
