Honor of Kings, the anticipated mobile MOBA title, hasn’t approached its global release yet, but the game is already making moves. Recently, the game was showcased at the Apple iPhone 2023 event. Apple displayed the gaming capabilities of the new iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro with Honor of Kings.

While an Apple executive said that the iPhone 15 is the “best mobile gaming platform in the world,” the game that was being played on the display behind them was Honor of Kings. The executive added that the iPhone is powered by high efficient and high performance Apple Silicon. This makes it one of the best devices to game from.

The gameplay showed an intense Honor of Kings solo battle in the top lane as a champion attempted to defend the lane after losing two turrets. All of the text was in English, instead of the usual Mandarin which is used in the game’s earlier China-only version.

The gameplay showcase will come as a good sign for players as the anticipated Honor of Kings approaches a global release. Tencent has said that the game will be released before the end of 2023. However, no release date has been announced so far.

Tencent is already betting big on the game. It has announced the Honor of Kings International Championship (KIC) 2023 with a $10 million prize pool. The tournament will happen towards the end of the year and feature teams from around the world.

Honor of Kings isn’t the first mobile MOBA to be showcased in an Apple event

The Honor of Kings showcase isn’t the first time a MOBA is being played at an Apple event to show the gaming capabilities of iPhones. In the past, Apple has been showcasing Super Evil Megacorp’s Vainglory, a graphic demanding and gorgeous mobile MOBA as well.

The game was first shown in 2016 with the announcement of iPhone 6. Since then, it has featured several times in launch events and Apple advertisements. It seems that upcoming MOBA Honor of Kings is now taking up that spot. This is unsurprising as SEMC decided to halt development on Vainglory more than two years ago.

Apple is betting big on mobile gaming with the iPhone 15. In the launch event, several game devs including those of The Division Resurgence, Honkai Star Rail, and Genshin Impact showed the capabilities of the device.

Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro with its A17 Pro chip will be able to run older console and PC titles. This includes Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4.
