The New Meta and Balance for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3

The biggest factor for each new season of Fortnite competitive is the changing meta. Over the years, we’ve seen Fortnite evolve to have different styles of gameplay. In Chapter 4 Season 3, there’s been a few changes that will make tournaments different to the last Fortnite Majors.

One of the biggest changes is the shotgun alterations. The one-shot kill Mythic Havoc is gone, and a new Drum is here. A faster shotgun like the Drum always alters up close gameplay, especially when there’s not a single shot option instead. On top of that, we’ve had snipers removed and spray weapons like the combat SMG and MK-Alpha are back. This could mean we see a more spray-focused meta for competitive events like back in Chapter 3.

The latest weapon, the Exploding Repeater Rifle, is going to have a big impact too. This gun has already been found by players to be quite useful when quickly switching between weapons. The gun has crazy hip fire accuracy and no delay for dual wielding. This is an oversight by Epic as the gun is intended as a long-range rifle.

If the other use for the weapon isn’t patched before we get to the competitive events for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3, it could mean a pretty uneven balance for pro players. Some of the new Fortnite weapons this season are going to make big changes to how things work.

How Will Fortnite Competitive Change in Season 3?

Alongside the meta making some changes, Epic has announced a few alterations to the game itself.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 esports is the first for the new Ranked mode. This means pros will be playing in a game mode that hasn’t had mythics and other features removed, introducing a lot more RNG. The tournaments this season are even going to feature a boss with a one-of-a-kind mythic. We could see a lot of teams hot-dropping the Jungle area for a shot at this weapon in the next Fortnite major.

Epic is adding new ways for teams to earn points in tournaments too. From now on, opening a vault or capturing the point at the rift in POI will see teams get extra points. This could further funnel players to landing at only a few specific spots. We’ll likely see some tense competition for the rift in the island too, with a Mythic shotgun and extra points at stake here.

Those are some of the major changes for Fortnite competitive this season. Plus, we’ll likely see some players using the new Chapter 4 Season 3 skins too! Between the new weapons and Epic introducing a lot more RNG into tournaments, it’s going to be a wider season for competitive Fortnite. It seems like the esports side of the game is being brought more closely in line with pubs, which could be a sign of things to come from Epic.
