At the time of its release, Counter-Strike 2 received a lot of backlash from its community due to the absence of workshop maps in the game. Community servers, custom maps, and fan-made game modes were completely inaccessible for the CS2 player base unless they started the game in ‘insecure’ mode, which rendered them unable to play on official servers.

Luckily, it didn’t take long for Valve to address this issue, as they reimplemented community servers in CS2 via an update on November 2nd. The update enabled users to create and upload their custom maps to the CS2 Steam Workshop, where other players could download and play them offline or with friends on community servers.

Now, if you’re a new CS2 player, you might be wondering how you can play community maps in CS2. Luckily, getting access to workshop maps in CS2 is extremely easy and you can download and play any map you want in just a few seconds.

Without further ado, let’s check out how you can play fan-made maps in CS2 immediately via the Steam Workshop.

How To Play Workshop Maps in CS2: Explained

To get started with playing workshop maps in CS2, you’ll need to launch the game first. Once you’re in the main menu, click on the ‘Play’ button and head over to the ‘Workshop Maps’ section.

If you haven’t subscribed to any workshop maps yet, you’ll likely be greeted by an empty screen. To start downloading maps from the Steam workshop, you can click on ‘Visit Workshop’ in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.

Once you’re in the workshop, you’ll be able to browse through a wide variety of community maps that you can subscribe to as per your liking.

After subscribing to a map, you can close the workshop window. Once the download is complete, you can start playing on that map right away.

An alternative way to play CS2 workshop maps with your friends is via the ‘Community Servers’ section. To do so, click on the ‘Play’ button from the main menu once again and go to the Community Server Browser located just beside the ‘Workshop Maps’ tab. From there, you can sort through hundreds of community servers and play on the one you want.

That’s everything you need to know about playing workshop maps in Counter-Strike 2.
