Palworld not only wants to combine Pokémon with firearms, but also add tough survival mechanics. The Early Access release date has now been set
Everything about Palworld is crying out for Pokémon: cute pocket monsters that are stored in small balls by their trainers so that they can be used later in battle and for movement.
But then they start shooting with assault rifles. And immediately afterwards, a cute little fellow suddenly finds himself in the cooking pot. Yes, Palworld is quite unusual – and can already be played this month!
The most important info
Release: As announced in the trailer above, Palworld will be released in Early Access on January 19. It is not yet clear how long the phase will last – but the developers speak of at least a year on the Steam page
Platforms: For the time being, Palworld will probably only be available on Steam, but a release on Xbox consoles has also been announced – although it is still unclear when exactly the game will be released there.
What exactly is Palworld?
The game, which at first glance seems so cute, mixes several genres that could hardly be more incongruous … which makes it incredibly interesting. The following activities await you:
Collect pocket monsters: Clearly inspired by Pokémon, you can catch, train and breed so-called Pals and send them into battle for you. With your own firearms, however, you are anything but harmless.
Survival: Life is hard in Palworld – food is scarce and so the Pals not only eat themselves, you may also have to feed one of your companions in times of great need.
Base building: Palworld lets you construct your own buildings … although that’s not quite true. You don’t build them yourself, your Pals do it for you … no matter how exhausted they are. You can also send them to mines and let them toil there forever. Pals really don’t have a pleasant life.
Poaching: There are also endangered Pals – you’re not allowed to catch them … actually.
Much more: You can explore the open world, but also dungeons, breed your Pals, farm and go Pal hunting together in multiplayer. There really should be a lot in here.
Of course, it remains unclear whether the idea of exploited pocket monsters with firearms will also lead to a fun game and not just be sensational. But it won’t be long before we know more!
Will you be keeping an eye on Palworld or is the genre mix too weird for you? Do you already feel bad about exploiting these poor creatures so coldly or will you make the Pals work until they drop? Have you ever imagined a scenario like this in Pokémon? Let us know your thoughts on the game in the comments, we’d love to hear them!
