Kick, the emerging streaming platform that has been making waves in the digital world, made a significant update to its website yesterday. The update is primarily focused on the handling of gambling & hot tub streams, topicsthat has stirred “controversy” in the streamer space for well over a year.

In a move to address these concerns, Kick’s boss, Eddie Craven, announced on June 30 that the platform would be implementing changes to reduce “unnecessary” exposure to gambling streams. This does not mean an outright ban on gambling content.

Instead, the platform is providing users with the ability to toggle off all gambling streams, among other categories that viewers may prefer not to see.

Viewers who wish to find gambling content on Kick will have to actively seek it out. The platform will still host dedicated channels for gambling, but these will not appear as recommended streams unless a viewer expresses interest in them.

This update is seen as a step towards making Kick’s close ties to Stake less prominent. However, the effectiveness of these updates remains to be seen, given that the platform’s environment has been largely built around gambling.

Despite the controversies, Kick has been known for its relaxed content moderation compared to Twitch. However, questions have been raised about the platform’s long-term sustainability due to its 95-5 revenue split with content creators.
