LoL Asian Games 2022 – A breakdown of the group stage

The group stage saw 11 teams fight in 4 different groups, with the first seed advancing to the next stage. In Group A, South Korea dominated against the rest of the competition, as expected. The remaining three countries to qualify were Vietnam from Group B, Chinese Taipei from Group C, and Macau from Group D.

Overall, it was an expected result since these four nations are known to have talented players and a large fan base to fuel those talents. With that in mind, let’s see what will happen in the first round of the Knockout stage.

South Korea vs Saudi Arabia

This is probably one of the easiest matches to predict. South Korea is one of the big favorites and there is no way they will drop against Saudi Arabia. The talents and the level of play are head and shoulders way above Saudi Arabia’s. It will be an extremely one-sided match that can potentially end in less than 40 minutes.

China vs Macau

While it should be an easy ride for China, it shouldn’t be as much of a stomp as South Korea and Saudi Arabia. There’s no discussion on who will win, but it will be important to see how dominant the Chinese national team is, especially considering they will face South Korea in the semifinals.

Malaysia vs Chinese Taipei

Malaysia is an interesting team that does have potential but going against Chinese Taipei might not be enough. The latter is considered the third strongest country in the LoL Asian Games 2022, behind South Korea and China. If Malaysia somehow wins a game in the series, it would probably be the same as winning. For Chinese Taipei, instead, their goal is to play their own game and get prepared for the semifinals, where they’ll probably face Vietnam.

India vs Vietnam

This matchup is probably as one-sided as the one between South Korea and Saudi Arabia. Vietnam will win and it will probably do it in dominant fashion: expect a sub-45 minute victory across the two games.
