Will the new part of the sci-fi role-playing game saga have an open world? Current rumors speak a clear language.

When will Mass Effect 5 be released? We don’t know that either, sorry! But at least: In the context of the recently announced wave of layoffs at developer Bioware, the studio still emphasized that the personnel bloodletting should have no impact on the sci-fi role-playing game.

Now there is some new info. But they are not official, but come from a leaker, who is considered very well informed and therefore credible in the industry. So it’s worth reading on, I promise!

Smaller locations instead of open world?

What is the new info? Mass Effect 5 will not offer an open world, like most other big RPGs do these days. Rather, Bioware is to orient itself much more strongly on the first three parts of the series, that is: Freely accessible, but spatially much smaller, linear locations.

Who did this info come from? From Jez Corden, journalist and host of the podcast (The Xbox Two). The post takes place from hour 1:37:

We remember: In Mass Effect 1 through 3, we could explore places like the Citadel, Omega, or Feros, but they were always manageable. This meant that you could orient yourself well even in places that were still unfamiliar, and the danger of overlooking something was very small.

Mass Effect: Andromeda on the other hand, relied on open-world-like levels, which turned out to be significantly larger and thus, according to many fans, made both the story and the exploration less exciting. Dragon Age: Inquisition also faced similar criticism. So it’s quite possible that Bioware has had a rethink now.

Until we get to see official footage of Mass Effect 5, your alarm clock will probably ring a few more times. Currently, the game is still in an early development phase.

Are you excited for Mass Effect 5? How much are you looking forward to the next entry in the sci-fi saga? What do you personally want from the game and how much did you like Mass Effect: Andromeda? As we all know, opinions on this question vary widely. We are curious about your opinions, so feel free to write them in the comments!
