Don’t Scream sends you to Game Over if you scream loudly. The game listens via microphone in real life and punishes loud noises.

This new horror game could be a big Twitch hit: In Don’t Scream you must have a microphone plugged in and must not scream under any circumstances – otherwise Game Over will flicker across your screen. Should not be so easy, because already the Reveal trailer looks really creepy.

The video is reminiscent of found-footage horror movies from the 90s: You see the game world through a shaky camera with rather mediocre resolution. This is exactly what makes the environment (created in Unreal Engine 5) look so real. See for yourself right now!

What else do we know about Don’t Scream?

What are the game rules? Your mic must be active all the time so the game can hear if you are screaming. Quiet talking is fine, but even a short exclamation is enough to lose. Then you have to start all over again, there are apparently no save points in the game itself. A playthrough should take under 20 minutes and scare you with random encounters.

Sounds like the ideal recipe for a Twitch hit. Short rounds, an exciting real-life challenge, and viewers don’t have to venture into the dark forest themselves. And if the cat throws something down in the background or the pizza delivery rings, not much game time is lost.

When will Don’t Scream be released? According to Steam, the game will be released on October 27, just in time for Halloween! But first in Early Access, sometime in the 1st quarter of 2024 it should be ready and for example offer other languages than English.

Who is developing this? Don’t Scream comes from the two indie developers Joure and Joe.

How much does it cost? The game will cost (on Steam) around 10 euros. According to the developers, the price will not increase even after Early Access.

Then you’re like me and I might have just the right game tip for you: Before Your Eyes is an emotional story game where you fast forward in time every time you blink. This makes for a wonderful story about how life flows inexorably forward. All you need is a webcam to make this work.
